On the MIAD full kit, is the integrated trigger guard made of metal or plastic?

Plastic.

What's wrong with it being plastic?
ETA:  If you're worried about durability, a few points:
1.  You need to see Stick's MIAD canine trial.
2.  It's a trigger guard.  If you're worried about something getting in there with enough force to tear it up, just think what it would do to your fingers that would be around it or what would happen to the grip, lower,  trigger, and magwell that are in the same area and are probably going to take a hit too.

I'm not sure what is upsetting about the plastic part, but if it offends you that much, just go buy the aluminum version as they sell both.  I own both, and the aluminum one sits in a box with my other unused AR parts.

You can take a look at these pictures to get a rough idea of an abused grip.  I use this grip on my training weapon, and there are no problems.

Rich at Magpul was kind enough to tell me that he would replace this grip with a new one, and I declined.  I have no questions about how well the MIAD holds up on either the range, or in real world use.

Here are two lowers, one using the aluminum, and one with the plastic......

I'm sorry I offended the two of you, personal preference doesn't seem to mean much when building your own weapons I guess.

I'll buy both, and use both on different builds or sell either that I don't like.  I thought they'd be more than ~$40.

I give up, what are you talking about?  You asked a question, you got answers based off real world use.  If pictures and use weren't what you were looking for, you have my apology.

I don't think anyone is trying to change your preference, just giving you info to try and help.

I did get an answer to my question, I don't know why the two of you care if I want plastic or metal.  I didn't even say anything, I just put a damn sad face.  Relax a little, you'll live longer.

Edited: To waste more of my life in this thread.

That aint no smiley...appears as though you were not happy about the guard being made
of plastic...hence the responses you got...

No biggie...glad you did ....

I learned something I did not know...

And will be ordering one of those plastic ones asap...

thanks for your post....

FWIW

The integrated trigger guard is part of a removable / interchangeable front strap. The front strap comes with the finger rest that is common to the A2 style pistol grip. I prefer the flat front strap so I don't use the plastic one. I use the metal one.

I realize that it would raise the cost of the grip kit, but if they made the integrated trigger guard with a flat front strap I'd use it. The only difference in the standard kit, and the full kit is the trigger guard piece, and another piece most will never use. So, if you don't want the trigger guard, save your money and get the standard kit.

The plastic the MIAD is made of is probably as durable, if not more durable, then most of the plastic furniture we all use on our guns.

If you're really this sensitive, that rough grip texture on the MIAD is really going to give you fits.

You're the only one getting uptight here.

That picture right there kind of illustrates why I do not like the integrated one that comes with the MIAD. The integrated front strap has the finger groove ala A2 grip. I prefer the smooth front strap.

Then again, I don't see much point in either version of the winter trigger guard (and RRA's version is down right retarded). I guess maybe compared to some of you guys I have skinny fingers or something but I have no problem with standard TG with gloves on.

The only thing I like about the Magpul version is the built in "gapper" but for $20, I've managed to resist so far

Just my $.02

Right dude, I stayed up all night because of this.

Thanks for the pictures

I have the aluminum, bought the plastic.  The material is rock solid.  PS, when taking off the front strap, be aware of the 2 sharp points.  Just so happens they pierce hand flesh quite well.

I have the aluminum ones  on all of my AR's.  They do fill the gap quite nicely and they are more ergonomic than the gawdawful factory trigger guards by removing the sharper edges, it also improves the look of the gun.  This is the way the trigger guard should have originally been engineered (Sorry Gene)

I'm surprised that it's taken 30+ years for someone to get these done right!

I have 3 sets of MIAD and aluminum trigger guards, and while I'm not sure if I like the straight grip or with the finger rest, but I do know that the mid backstrap and aluminum guard are the best parts available for me.  And the fact that the staff at Magpul are great to deal with doesn't hurt either.
