Well I got to the range yesterday with my new Bushy Predatore and was looking forward to an enjoyable range session. Unfortunately my bushmaster didn't cooperate. Problem being that when a loaded magazine is inserted and bolt cocked the gun would shoot one round, eject spent brass, cock and fail to fire upon the next trigger pull. In almost every instance the bolt would not look up after last round was fired from magazine. I tried 6 other maagazine hoping it was a magazine related issue. Problem existed with all 7 magazine. Took upper off gun pulled bolt and carrier checked to make sure carbon buildup was not a problem rings correctly positioned, bolt well lubed etc. Perhaps upon reassembly I got to shot a few strings of 2 to 3 rounds before experiencing the same problem. I used 3 different brands of ammo thinking that might have been the cause. Nada, same problem ammo not the issue. Last thing I did was to take apart my Wilson Custom Tactical and mate that lower with the Bushmaster upper. Loaded a full 20 round mag and pulled the trigger as quickly as I could, worked everytime. Next I subsituted the Bushmaster lower and placed it on my Wilson upper. Repeated the same test and it worked perfectly. There went my notion that perhaps I was experience a gas issue in that the busmaster wasn't developing enough force to full cock and speed the travel of the bolt. By changing the lower I thought It could have been an adjustable trigger issue but the bushmaster lower worked perfectly with the wilson upper. Lastly I reasembled the Bushmaster and tried the fully loaded magazine and was able to fire all 5 rounds. At that point I figured maybe it was just a breakin issue. 2nd Magazine full and the misfire secquence started all over again. I know I can ship the gun back to the factory for service save doing that anyone have an experience or thoughts on my problem. This gun would be my 5th AR-15 rifle the previous 4, Les Baer, Wilson and 2 colts ran flawlessly right out of the box. I guess that everyone proably will get an "off" gun from time to time. I'm anxious to hear from you guys on what might I do save sending off the gun back to the factory. A total of 140 rounds were consumed. Tony |

Is it picking up a new round from the magazine every time? If it is, and it is failing to fire, are there dents in the primers? If it is not, maybe check the spring in the stock. Cycle it and see if there is any problems or resistance. You have an unmarked recoil buffer, correct? Is there any markings on the new lower that may indicate the bolt carrier is dragging on the hammer during forward movement? |
