Is WD-40 safe to use as a lubricant/protectant on a firearm?  What about on a stainless steel firearm?

Thanks.

Friends don't let friends use WD-40 on firearms.  It is for "Water Displacement" and will gunk any gun up because of all the solids it contains when sprayed.

ETA:  "on firearms"

Agreed, don't use it. There are many other things out there that are not expensive and work SO MUCH BETTER than WD.

WD-40 works fine if you are using it to prevent rust on exterior surface.  Just don't get it into the moving parts.
