I live in Massachussetts, and have a Bushmaster AR15 with 16" barrel which I would like to make quieter.
We are not allowed to own sound suppressors here.

Does anyone know of anything at all that can be done (legally in MA) to reduce the noise out of this thing? It is kind of absurd.

Fuck the noise complaints.  Gunfire is the sound of freedom.

Move to a free state.

Anything that makes it quieter IS a sound suppressor, so if you don't like the noise, sell it, or move to a state that allows suppressors...
