I do most of my shooting at my cottage up in northern Michigan, Lewiston to be exact. My neighbor up there is gettin' really upset after firing a few mags because of the noise. Is there a way to silence of or surpress the noise on my CAR 15? It's a Colt preban made in March of 94 with the pressed on brake. I tried doing searches so I wouldn't get flamed and I found nothing. Any help would be appreciated.hug.gif

Sure, $200 tax stamp, paperwork and six month wait...PLUS the cost of the supressor.

There are plenty on here who will chime in ...

Yeh Update: Sorry
1. Check michgan laws about silencers (can you own one)

2. Send your upper to a gunsmith and have them press that POS off. Thread your barrel and add a FS of your choice. ADCO just did mine. $69 for shipping (back) and labor (no parts)

3. Then do some research on silencers pick one, find a distributor pay for it. I like the Advanced Armament models They range in price.

4. Go to the ATF's website download the apporiate form. Fill it out (making no mistakes). Get two passport photos and get finger printed on two FBI finger print cards (the blue ones) then have the local law enforcement chief/sheriff sign your form.

5. Send this form along w/ $200 dollars to the BATFE and wait approx 22 weeks (that was how long I waited)

As long as you have the time and the money. The wait isn't that bad. Just follow the instructions on the form to a "T".

Actually fellas they are or are aobut to be, infact IIRC thats because of the owork of one of our very own ARFcom members. Someone posted about it in the M16 section or the american class3 section of the board.

Nice

My college entry essay was "Why the use of sound suppressing devices on firearms should be lawful." They must have liked it!

In the meantime, you could get a .22 upper - it would be quieter, cheaper and fun for plinking.

I'm glad I got my batch of F4's in before the entire state of Michigan sent thiers...

I can only imagine the absolute log jam it will cause in the next few months.
