what does this mean in regard to barrel testing/inspection on Colt ar's?

in short a magnetic field is indused through the part. when it hits micro cracks and such it creats a disturbance in the electro-magnetic field and makes the iron molecules line up in the powder that is sprinkled on the surface, which shows where/if there is a defect.

It is a process to find (hopefully) cracks in the metal... techincally, it identifies "flux leakage" on the surface of the metal... this is a fancy way of saying that if you run a magnetic field through metal and sprinkle iron powder on it, the powder will stick and gather to an area that is cracked...
