Hey guys, I just built my first AR.  During assembly the bolt catch roll pin went in rather hard.  The bolt catch didn't rotate freely on the pin and wouldn't hold the bolt back when cycled with the mag.

Should the bolt catch rotate on the pin or the pin rotate in the lower? I would figure the bolt catch should rotate on the pin since they are both hard steel whereas the lower is aluminum.  Any thoughts?

In order to get it to work I "resized" the roll pin so that it rotates in the lower (squeezed it with vise grips). I will replace the bolt catch ASAP but want to sight the rifle in tomorrow so I can use it in my ACTS meet next week.

Thanks.

The bolt catch should rotate on the pin. The pin should fit very tight and need to be driven into its hole in the lower receiver.
