I bought a RRA m4 in March 2003.  It came with th e"fixed" collapsable stock.  I would like to add a genuine collapsable stock to it now.  Would there be any chance the color of the new stock would not match the rest of the gun?
Main reason I ask it that a yearor so ago I heard that some manufacturers (or maybe just bushmaster) had some issues with the parts not matching.
Also does anyone else make these stocks besides RRA  or would it be best to stick with them.  And where would be the best place to get it as far as proce, etc?
Thanks.

just get a rra stock or get the rebuild kit from adco to turn you stock collapsable, or swap the stock body over to the new one.

thanks for the reply.

I can't seem to find a rebuild kit on adco's site.  Do you happen to have a link for it?  How difficult is the install/conversion?

thanks again.

I though on those fixed collapsable stocks, there was a pin you punched out to make it usable again.

Most pinned stocks can not be converted to a collapsable  stock.  They use the wrong buffer tub.  After the AWB I put a RRA 6-position on my Bushmaster and have been very happy with it. Very well made, very solid.

There are a plethora of stock kits to be had, from the mil-spec tube/stock kits all the way to the economy types. You will also have to decide if you want a Type I or Type II stock (earlier era vs. newer style). There are also alot of companies that make alternative stocks that are great quality such as Vltor, Magpul, etc.

Switching a stock is fairly simple. You will probably need to buy a stock wrench that fit the notches in the castle nut that secures the buffer tube. Once you have the wrench, it is just a matter of loosening the castle nut, and unscrewing the buffer tube. Be careful though, because the buffer tube holds the buffer detent and detent spring in place, and when you start unscrewing the buffer tube, they can both go flying to parts unknown.

ETA: It helps to have access to a bench vice. I don't know if RRA uses any kind of semi-permanent methods to "secure" the castle nut or not. I have heard of everything from loktite to "staking" of the castle nut. In some cases they can be tricky to get loose.

adco firearms offered a kit that included the correct buffertube along with parts to make the stock body functional.

Spend the $65 with G&R Tactical and get a CMT M4 stock.  At least it will have a proper mil-spec sized tube - unlike the RRA.

Thanks for the suggestion.  On their site they are out of stock and they are also $80.  Is that worth it over the RRA stock?
What would be the difference in a mil-spec vs. non mil spec?

Go check BravoCo's site.  They usually have the milspec M4 stocks for about $65-75, depending on if they are running a sale.  At some times he throws in the spanner as well.
Might want to look at VLTOR, or the TDI saddle piece for the M4 stock.  That would give you the same storage as on the VLTOR for about $50 cheaper.

I'll consider it but I do not see it for 65.  It's 80 and OOS.  Is this the right link?

And again, I'm not all that knowledgable about waht the difference is in mil-spec vs. non mil spec.  I mean, I know waht mil spec is but what would the difference be as far as getting it over the non mil?

Last time I ordered from Grant there were $65 or so IIRC, price may have risen since then.  It's still a deal.

Ok why milspec?  1) Stronger forged receiver extension 2) proper diameter tube.  The commercial copies are larger in diameter than the specifications.  It means you can never upgrade to the VLTOR or Crane type stock w/o buying a whole new receiver extension.
