I just replaced the plastic trigger guard on my Bushmaster with a aluminum one.

The roll pin went through the receiver easily enough, but it was REALLY tight going through the aluminum trigger guard, it took several good heavy wacks with a 8 oz. hammer. Yes, I know...a little WD40/oil works wonders - I thought of it after I was done .

The manufactures must use a press when installing them at the factory.

Has anybody replaced their trigger guard and had the same tight fit?

I never heard of any trouble, but why did you replace it anyhow?

I don't know how many you have done before, but I don't recall having any issues with them.  I can't see why you were driven to replace it though...  I guess if you like it, thats what matters, but if I were replacing parts, I would have upgraded the unit.

May I ask why you replaced it? The reason I'm asking is because I have one and the pin keeps falling out, it ate out the plastic on my BM. I was going to post this the other day and thought no one else had this problem and assumed the issue was an isolated case.

After 20+ years in the combat arms (12Z) I never did see a plastic trigger guard on an M16A1/A2 and it just didn't feel right. I actually never had a problem with the plastic one.

Yep, I noticed the same thing with the tight fit between the pin and the AL guard.  IMHO, it is too excessive.  I use a small file to slightly ream out the hole in the AL guard.  This excessive interference fit is the reason we see post about some people breaking off the opposing ear of the recv.

Just use a drill, to make the hole bigger, guys whack the shit out of it with a hammer and only break the ears off the receiver.
