| Anyone know the best way to attach the IDF sling with 550 cord to a fixed buttstock M16A1? I thought there was a photo out somewhere showing how to make a loop with 550 cord. |

The most common way (there is no standard way) in the IDF to attach a sling to the M16 buttstock is using two lengths of cord. One is looped around the buttstock near the end (usually through the permanant sling bracket on the bottom). The sling is tied/clipped to this cord. It is recommended to use a long cord and knot a loop at the end to keep the sling attach point away from the stock (this lets the sling drop away from the stock when you raise the rifle to your cheek). The second cord goes a little forward, around the thinner part of the stock, and through/around the first loop and its purpose is to keep the first loop from slipping off the end of the stock. Hope these pictures help. www.waronline.org/IDF/photodir.php?image=Army/Soldiers/130.JPG www.waronline.org/IDF/photodir.php?image=Army/Soldiers/3LVNF.JPG Edited: You can do the same as so nicely explained in the Maryland AR15 site linked above and just run the second cord through thru the knotted loop at the top. To attach the sling to the front we usually take a knotted loop and pass it through the FSB or through the FSB and around the barrel ( I recommend to also pass it through the swing swivel to keep it from moving and making noise). And no, I've never seen a hot barrel cause the cord to melt. See photo below from www.isayeret.com http://www.isayeret.com/content/photos/weapon_check.jpg |
