Hey folks, I am about to deploy and I am making my "Coming Home Wish List" on fire arms I want to buy. Currently the 2 items I am looking forward to buy are the "Kimber Desert Warrior" in .45 and also the Barrett M468 in 5.56. My questions are..... A) Can any one give me some info on the Barrett as in reliability and service? B) Are the just an "Overpriced" rifle and would I be better off with a Bushmaster or Panther? C) Would 6.8 be a better caliber to choose from the 5.56? Thanks for the help fellas. hug.gif |

| Thank you for the input. And I do stand corrected, I figured the M468 to come in ether 6.8 or 5.56. Thanks for the correction. As for the price, you are right, they are very pricey! I seen a few of the Black Water guys in Iraq sportin Barret 468 uppers on there Rifles during CPA escort missions during OIF 2-3. They claimed the damage from the round was awsome. I shot kills when the engaged the chest area. Well again, thanks for the input.hug.gif |
Well the 6.8SPC is the bigger round of the two. If you really want a 6.8, I would go to Wes at MSTN and check out his custom builds. 90% of the 6.8SPC guns I have seen have been built by Wes. Here is a link to his ad in the EE concerning his 6.8SPC uppers. www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=22&t=195127 He can basically put any component you want on it for you. Let us know what you end up with. |
| Those Blackwater guys weren't paying for their own ammo. You might want to check ammo prices on the commercially available stuff. Also, the 6.8 round is still largely experiemental. If it doesn't take off you might find yourself with a really expensive upper that you can't shoot after a few years, unless you handload each round. Some guys love that stuff, they like to shoot calibers like .222 Rem Mag, .221 Fireball, and .300 Whisper. I prefer to shoot ammo that costs 11 cents a round and can be rapid fired at a public range without spending ten minutes looking for that missing spent casing afterwards because you just HAVE to handload for it. |
Thanks for the web site. I am deffinetly going to contact this guy about making my 5.56 AR style rifle when I get back! His rifles look SWEET! Hope they shoot just as well as the look!hug.gif |

I have a Barrett M468 and I love it. There is an old Dodge truck I shoot at on a farm and I was impressed with the damage it does to it compared to my friend's 5.56. I will be out there again this weekend and I'll take some pictures of it. http://www.outfitterreviews.com/Picture%20005.jpg http://www.outfitterreviews.com/Picture%20003.jpg |

I see it isn't the Barrett lower. The lowers have the Barrett logo laser engraved on the right magwell. At least the ones I built did. They may have changed, but I doubt it. There were over 500 lowers in the vault when I left there. You can build an upper for little over $500 if you look for parts. The SIR by itself is $400. No thanks. |
Yes it is, it's a complete M468 from Barrett. I'll take a better picture later. |
