I'm thinking about getting a Colt LE6920 to keep my Colt MT6601 and Busmaster XM15-A3 company.

Can someone post a picture of the roll mark on the LE6920? Does it say "Colt's Law Enforcement Carbine?  If it does, has anbody ever had any difficulites from local police departments, law enforcement personel, etc. about this?

Does it come with a M16 bolt carrier or a firing pin shrouded 'semi-auto' bolt carrier? Is the 16-inch barrel a lot louder than a 20-inch?

Thanks

Does it come with a M16 bolt carrier or a firing pin shrouded 'semi-auto' bolt carrier? Some have definitely been known to come with the M16 bolt carrier, which is perfectly legal. Is the 16-inch barrel a lot louder than a 20-inch? I don't know by how much, but a shorter barrel will be louder than a longer one.

Thanks

I have some interest in this question too, since it looks like I'm gonna order a LE6920 from the internet.

Will I get any hassle from my LOCAL FFL dealer (on the receiving end) when he glimpses those markings on the gun he's transferring to me?

Also, I heard there was some letter that the BATF wrote which states that these rifles are legal, and which some people carry with their gun to avoid LEO hassles. I believe it was posted on this site, but I can't search far enough back into the archives since I'm a new member. Can anyone post a copy?

I just found an answer to my own question.

Here's a link to a BATF fact sheet regarding guns like the LE6920.

Some of the important wording:

"There are no longer any marking requirements for semiautomatic assault weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices. Existing markings on firearms and magazines relating to law enforcement or government use may be disregarded.

And this:

"Law enforcement officers and police departments who obtained semiautomatic assault weapons are no longer required to use such firearms only for official use.

Law enforcement officers and police departments may now sell or transfer semiautomatic assault weapons to persons who are not prohibited from receiving firearms."

Some people recommend carrying a copy of this with your AR, in case you run into an uninformed LEO.

Any other, similar proof that this firearm can be legally owned would be appreciated.

[Edit] BTW, I have heard of people on other forums who HAVE been hassled by LEOs who might nott know the law, and can only read the words "Military/Government/Law Enforcement Use Only" on the gun.

I had a run in with a cop in Gloucester Va. He said he was driving by wanted to come by the farm and see what all the shooting was all about.  Kind of odd, its 250 acres of land and has been as its been in the family for 200 years and we have been shooting for every single one of them 200 years.  He asked to look at my gun and flipped out. Told me to sit on the bumber of his car and he called me in and started asking me all kinds of fast nasty questions like where did I get it, why do I feel I need to have a gun like this.   The cop on the radio asked him if it was a full auto or semi,  he came back with semi and then the cop on the radio gave him the news.   That was last march.  I have blasted about 10K rounds with it from that point and see the dumb ass once in a while in town.

I'd tell dumbass to go get a warrant next time.  With a piece of property that big near Gloucester he should know what all that noise is about.

As far as the 6920, I've never had a problem with anyone asking to see my rollmark.  It doesn't matter anymore!

Yes it does say it, no its nothing more than an engraving, it doesn't mean anything.

That's the only thing that bothers me about LEO marked weapons.  Not all police officers know the current law.  If one doesn't bother to check it out first, it could get time and money consuming before all is said and done.  Not worth the risk to me when non-LEO marked weapons are readily available.

All the roll mark pics you want here.

I have an LE6920, never had any problems with the cops. IT is simply not against the law to own them in most states, why worry? A cop who is uninformed enough to hassle you about a rollmark will hassle you about your AR anyway.  Many surplus firearms have "Property of US GOVT" rollmarked on them.
Does that mean they were stolen? Of course not. Asshats abound everywhere, you just have to learn how to deal with them.  Most cops I know do not view doing the BATFEs job as something they need to do anyway.

Mine came with an M16 carrier and 30 round mags. It is a little louder than my 20", but not as bad as my 11.5" SBR.
