What's the difference between the two rear sight aperatures on an A1 sight. They appear to be the same size, except the one marked "L" looks to be off-center to the right. I just used to the A2 sight and don't know much about an A1 rear sight. Thanks! |

"offcenter to the right".. The rear sight aperture is on a threaded rod, and when you flip the sight, the offset allows the alternate aperture to be in the same postion, horizontally, as the first aperture. If I must use irons, I prefer the A1 uppers' KISS design to the A2. BUT, what I did on my A1's, and can recommend to you is this: Replace the aperture with A2. At the same time, replace the A1 Windage Drum with a Rapidex Windage Knob. This gives a knob similar to the A2, and has 1/2 MOA clicks. It is stiff enough that it cannot be "accidently" knocked off its setting. Replace the round A1 front sight post with an A2 square front sight post. This will give a sharper image, especially with light coming from either side. Now you have most of the advantages of the A2 sights, but with a simpler, more rugged setup. Zero with the small hole at 50 yds. Flip to the large hole (0-200) and rezero the front post (elevation) at 50 yards. This should just take one or two clicks up on the front post. Now, use the large aperture for your 0-200 yds, and flip to the small for 300 yds +. |
