Just ordered a full length scope from the country shed. Question is, will it fit on my hand guard rail. I mean I know it will fit the weaver rail but will it protrude to far towards my eye. I guess if it does I could just  pull the stock out as far as it goes.

Any opinions.

Start by posting a link to the scope you bought.

it's not generally recommended to mount the scope on the handguard rail.

I doubt the scope will be to close to your eye, just mount it vertical to the charging handle.

make sure not to get cheap rings.

Why is it not recommended to mount it on the hand guard. I bought the mount because it was cheap. I am not into all that expensive stuff everyone puts on there AR's. The scope comes with custom rings so I am cool there.

Thanks meltdown for your input.

Even with a free floated barrel, an optic mounted to the handguards will still move.

Not sure what mount you are talking about, but it would be impossible to tell if the scope will work without the dimensions/specifications of both.

There are several good reasons not to get cheap rings/mount, and the price differential is not substantial.

OK one of the hex screws broke when I was installing the scope on the rail. Needless to say it functioned terribly at the range yesterday. I ended up using the iron sights and just using the scope to see what I hit.

I have no idea how to zero a scope please help me. And what brand of rings are good quality. I would post a link but I do not know how sorry.

The scope is a Leapers full length 3-9 x 40, Objective diameter 40mm, tube diameter 1", field of view 40' - 14.5' @ 100 yards, eye relief 3.3-2.7 inches, exit pupil 13.5-4.5mm, Click value 1/4 inch (1 click @ 100 yards) length 12.2 inches, weight 17.2 ounces.

I hope this is enough info. I copied it word for word from the site. Thanks for any info.

you have now just learned why not to buy cheep crap for your gun. the screw broke because it is cheep crap. the scope is not much better. when you buy quality products you have a quality experiance buy crap and you have the type of experiance you had yesterday. if you want some good rings that are affordable try Leupold.

Ouch!!! I knew that would be the first response I got. Sorry not everyone can afford Leopold scopes and accsessories. I see scopes that cost as much as whole rifle's. I think I just might stick with the iron sights or buy a rifle that comes with a scope already mounted.

So from your response I guess Leapers is a crappy brand.

Yeah it is, but you don't have to buy a Leupold to get a decent scope.  Check out some like the Bushnell 3200 series, etc.  Just do some reading first to find out if a scope is decent or not.  Also, if a scope comes with rings, the rings are usually pretty cheap.  Sometimes they may be OK, but I've never seen them be really good.

I have a Mueller 4-16X50 with adjustable objective and illuminated mil-dot reticle.  Great scope for about $200.

I mounted it in Warne ultra high QD rings. Excellent repeat zero, very solid steel rings for about $60.  It worked in terms of eye relief and clearance of the BUIS, but just barely.

You don't always have to spend alot of money, but there is a difference between cheap and inexpensive.

Another one I thought of was the Swift Premier starting around $139.  I bought a silver one from EA Brown for my 10-22, it is a good deal.

ETA:  I have a set of Warne QD rings, too.  The Leupold PRW's appear to be sturdier for less than $40, but they're not quick detach rings.  These aren't the standard cheap Leupold junk rings.  Not to say that the Warne's aren't very good, they are.
