Ok how many mags should I have and please dont say you need alot or 100's or 1000's I have 7 now but would like know how many other people have so I can get a clear picture of what my target goal will/might be. Scott |

I have 4... 2-30's and 2-20's and I usually use my 20's. When shooting standing, I use a 30 because I use it as "support" by placing left arm on the right side of the mag (against it) and then my hand on the handgaurd in the 4 or 5 o'clock position. (Right hand on pistol grip) It really helps steady the rifle. If I can take a pic of it, it'll explain it better, but all I have is my phone camera. |
If you know how many you have, you don't have enough...![]() Seriously, you should have between 10 and 15 per rifle IMO. These should have been tested for reliability, and should be kept as your go to mags in a crisis situation. Keep a few extras for range use, training, etc... After that, you can decide how many to have... Just remember mags are made to be disposable and they do wear out. Having replacements for the future is always good. I don't think the price of mags are going to get any better then now, so stock up while you can. You never know when the next ban, or something similiar comes up. Once you can't get them anymore, you'll be kicking yourself in the ass. Personally, I buy them whenever I find a good deal. I've just packed 30 mags away in storage so they would be separate from the main stash. We had a group buy come on mags come up in VA, so I'm ordering 10 more. Do I really need them? Who is to know, but I'm glad I'm getting them. |
| I only have six 20 round mags but I have five 30 round mags on order. I don't mind reloading right now. I might get sick of it later on. I usually only shoot around 300-500 rounds per range visit. It's fun for me so I don't look at it as a problem to reload. I usually reload a couple mags while everyone else is checking targets. I have a nice spotting scope to check my targets while shooting. No need to go look. It doesn't really matter...its personal preference. However I was talking to Stickman and he said their could possibly be a future (don't know how soon) ban on magazines which will make the supply demand price go way up. That is if you can even find them. I'm going to build up slowly. Buy a couple each month if you can. Spend the rest on ammo. I've been going through a lot lately. Shit isn't cheap. |

funny how this came up. Today I went to the military clothing store on base, and they had a case of 30 round mags just sittin there all brand new USGI in wrap waiting for Marines to pick up for the field. I'm thinking there was 50 mags in the case, but didn't look too hard for fear I would wind up outside the store with them, and since I had no money, that would have been a bad thing. I'll let my fellow Marines dig into the stash since I already have 15, and that's more than I have ever carried at once. My answer is buy as many as you can carry, and then have 5 extra in case you lose a couple, or one breaks. |
When you need 'em, and ain't got 'em, you'll be singing another tune.

While I do not have the same amount of mags as the others who have posted their comments here, I would not go out and call them "dorks". That is their prerogative. It is their money. Deal with it! ![]() Back on topic: I have a dozen. |

I got 7 now and just bought 4 more with magpuls. I will probally stick with these and probally get some more while I am in the sandbox. Just have them shipped home and I hope the wife does not get mad. Probally get 2 20's and 4 more 30's in the nexy year then get more when I get another AR. Thanks Scott |
Bottom line is always - whatever suits your needs. As a civilian who will only use his rifle at the range, my determining factor is the amount of mags I will be needing at the range. I do not want to be burdened by the hassel of re-loading my mags several times. I would imagine that would be the same factor controlling when you are LEO or military. Only to a higher number. It would depend on how many mags you are expecting to use on the field. |

I have 15 30 rounders and 2 20 rounders. I want to get 5 more 30 rounders and 3 more 20 rounders by January. I've got 5 15 rounders for my glock 19, 1 17 rounder, and one 33 rounder. For some reason I feel like I need more. By January I am going to be getting either a glock 26 or a second glock 19, after that I will get a few more glock mags plus the ones that come with from the factory and call it good for a while. Then concentrate on getting more ammo. Mostly what I am paranoid of is not being able to get them anymore in case of a stupid ban or something. I figure we've got until 2008 to stock up on all of the shit that we possibly can. By then I intend to have the entire extra bedroom full of ammo and mags, and at least two possibly four more guns in the safe. Call me paranoid, but hey, fuck it. |
I know some guys who disagreed with this idea about 12 years ago, and bought truckloads of them. They waited a few years, and sold most of them off, now they have lots of new toys to play with that in total, cost them pennies on the dollar. Take that for what it's worth. |
![]() I love newbies... ![]() So some of us must be cooler than you because we can do both?
