Hi all,

I just got a Bushmaster Dissipator from my dad...it was brand new, never fired, but has been sitting in his closet for a couple of years.  I took it to the range a couple of times, and have noticed that whenever I feed a round from the top of a magazine by releasing the bolt catch, the bolt stops halfway stripping the round off the magazine, with the round stuck on the feed lips.  This happens consistently with any magazine I use.  If I manually pull back and release the charging handle, it feeds fine.  There is no trouble with feeding rounds as the gun fires and cycles.

It seems to me the buffer spring might be a shade too light, and may need to be replaced.  Can anyone confirm this diagnosis or give an alternate explanation for this behavior?

Thanks!

Lubrication?

How many different mags and what manufacturer made the mags?

Need to know wether you have the collapsible stock or not..... the action spring might be weak, and it should measure (free length) for a rifle in the neighborhood of 11-3/4 to 13-1/2 inches long. For a carbine action spring it should measure 10-1/16 to 11-1/4 inches long. Check to make sure you have the correct spring and it is of the correct length for your rifle.... Also, do not stretch the spring to correct   a short spring (it may or may not work if at all) ....

Good luck

Also using less rounds in the mag can help (but probably wont eliminate the problem you are having). I use 25 in my 30 rd mags but many like 28.

Did you count the rounds as you loaded?  My brother managed to have 2 overloaded in his mag last week and caused the same problem.  (he should know better)

Over loaded mags, a bolt locked to the rear for a few years, a weapon that isn't lubed or is dirty....

There could be a bunch of reasons, but there isn't enough info to really tell.

I don't think you don't have a problem here.

Make sure it's lubed per the manual. If it's new, it's not the springs. Springs don't go bad from sitting, they go bad from usage, even if it's been lying around with the bolt locked open. It just needs a litlle break in and it will losen up.

Many of us who use the Magpul Enhanced Followers with the Magpul Ranger Plates load 28 so that the mag seats easier and the top round feeds smoother. But a standard USGI 30 rounder with Black or Green followers should allow the top round with 30 in the mag to be stripped into the chamber.
