OK, I'm in a quandry.  I've pretty much decided that I'm going to acquire a 16" barrelled upper and I'm torn between the 16" dissy and the M4 profile barrel.  I've also decided that I'm going to get the complete upper assembly, and not just slap a new barrel on my existing upper (that way, see, I'll have 2 complete uppers, see, and who knows, maybe I'll build out a lower with all my free time :)

The Dissy has the advantage of the full-length sight radius (and the full length handguards, which would make it pretty damn easy for me to move my railed HGs over to the new upper).  I'd probaly shift my ACOG over to the new upper as well, so the sight radius isn't really all that important, yes?

The M4 is going to weigh a bit less and have the "cool" factor associated with it.  The ACOG would still be good to go, but I'd have to get new rails if I want to mount anything else.

So.  Questions.
Anyone here have both?  Pros, cons, of each from an actual shooter's perspective?
Gas block:  I assume the dissy has the gas block in the same location as an M4-type?  Or is it in the midlength position?

Bolt & Carrier:  Should I really be looking at picking up a new carrier group?  I've got about 670 rounds through my existing upper, but I keep reading warnings that switching bolts and carriers between rifles isn't really a good idea.

Mfgr:  My understanding is if I go dissy I've pretty much got to buy Bushmaster (not that there's anything wrong with that, my current rifle is bushy), if I go M4 there's a whole boatload I can look at.  This translates, to me, along the lines of cost:  Bushy's going to be pricier than non-bushy, just because they can.

Anything else I haven't thought of?

Help Me Decide!!

Go for the Dissipator! I have one and they are a lot of fun. Also, I got my Dissy upper from J&T Distributing. Mine has a midlength gas tube I believe. You can get a full length but you will have to open up the tube a bit.

Besides, Dissys just look cooler.

Here is mine:

ETA: in_burrito, that is a very nice rifle! One of my favorites.

ETA Again: What I really want to do is get a free float, full-length, handguard, 14.5" barrel and attach a Noveske Krink Flash Hider. Alas, I am not made of money so it will be a little while before this happens.

BeefyPeanut:  did that come with a bolt & carrier?  Charging handle?  What about the front endcap (triangle or circle?)

Thanks!

do both, get the best of both worlds.   Thats what i did.   I got a dissy, tricked it all out, then got a superlight upper for times i need to shoot off hand.

Bushmaster does sell a dissipator that is a m4 style barrel.I have the HB.the gas block is a 7inch lenght tube.I guess if you got the dissip-m4 barrel you could change-up and do the m4 if you wanted to by putting the sight back where the gas block is.I thought it was cool since it has the profile it does.by the way the m4 is my next build since I already have the Dissipator.

Get a midlength--half way in between.
