The mid-length gas system is designed to "smooth out" and improve functionality in a carbine length barrel.  It's not an issue with a 20".

The 20" 6.8's we have built have run mid length gas systems. I think expeirimentation would have to be done on port size to do a rifle length.  My guess is will have to a significantly larger port than a 5.56 for correct function, but will most likely work.  I have never seen a 6.8 with a full length gas system on it.
