considering a spr build if I can't get leo signoff on my sbr, what kind of accuracy are you guys (or gals) getting from your adco wo |
|
Are you referring to the White Oaks Armament barrels? Be well! [email protected] |
Accuracy shouldnt be a concern, the barrels are more mechanically accurate than you or I are capable of shooting. |
That's still ~2.5" at 500yds - consistently. It can be done, especially if you are a good judge of wind. While no expert, I have trouble maintaining 6" at 600yds. 9" is more realistic. 12" if the wind is screwey. |

I understand that it can be done but the conditions would have to be real good. 77 grains is still a very light bullet. I may have spoken a bit to quick but I still want to see it done in person. I am more like Mongo with larger groupings. I have no idea what my groups would be at 500 yards. The range I go to has paper out to 200 yards then 12X12 iron plates at 4,6,700 yards. With my 20” and 4X12 optic bench rested I can consistently hit the 400. 600 I would say 7-8 out of 10. The heaviest bullet I have shot so far has been Black Hills 69Gr HPBT, I am so new to the shooting ordeal that I have much to learn and even more practice to do. My current abilities are poor to ok but getting better. Once again I apologize to Davalin_MT for my BS comment. |

Rolly: No problem, I understand you being sceptical. I'm still having trouble believing it myself. If you're ever heading to NW Montana, give me a holler.......we can go do some shooting. Let me give you guys some more detail. I'm running a Jewell 2 stage trigger, Nightforce NXS 3.5-15 on a LaRue SPR mount. Along with the WOA barrell and bolt, those are the only parts I would claim helped me improve my accurracy. The most important factor was ammo selection. I shot groups with many brands and weights before I was able to narrow it down to the Black Hills 77's. I first shot 5, 5 shot groups at 1 & 2 hundred yards with all the different ammo. I then averaged all the groups of each type of ammo, to narrow it down to 5 different loads to test at longer ranges. What I found out was that loads that did the best at 1 & 2 hundred yards weren't always the best at longer ranges. All my groups have been shot prone on a Harris bipod and a rear sandbag. I'm also shooting in a lane that was cleared of trees for a power line......so I have thick forest on both sides that make a pretty effective wind break. What wind I get is usually a head wind at no more than a 11 or 1 o'clock angle. When I say 1/2 moa consistantly, I mean that every outing that I've shot groups(almost every weekend), I've gotten multiple groups under 1/2 moa. I've gotten several 2 1/4 groups at 500. Yes, those are my best groups of the day, my worst are usually in the 5 to 6 range. If I were to average all my 500 groups I would probably be about 3 1/2. So, I'm not claiming that I can shoot that well every time, however I do know that the gun is very capable of doing so when I do my part. Also keep in mind, these are mostly 3 shot groups. I have was doing 5, but it was getting too expensive. I also have to clean the barrel after 15-20 rounds to keep that level of accurracy. Shooting this weapon has converted 3 diehard bolt gunners to building similar AR's |
What optics were you using with that group? Very nice group BTW. |
Leupold MR/T 3-9X36 - the most correct scope for a Mod 1 build. I've shot a couple close to that, but not that good. Sub-MOA is no sweat, 0.7-0.8" or so, but I've really got to be on my game to get 0.5" or less.

Sweet leupy, nice SPR, too. |

I'm working up loads for a new WOP barrel. CMC trigger & Nikon 6X18. It has not been hard to get consistant .4 to .6 moa loads in 77, 75 and 63g bullets. I'm still looking for something in that range for 55g bullets. I think the most telling thing about the barrel is the overall average of every shot fired. I have tried 2 55g bullets, 1 60, 1 63, 1 69, 1 75 amd 1 77. I have used GI cases, 2 powders and 1 primer. The average for 73, 3 shot groups is .74" at 100 yds. This includes bad shooting and some windy days. If I remove the obvious bad groups that contained flyers and were reshot with much better results, the average for 60 3 shot groups is .63". I have never experienced such consistancy in 35 years of reloading. Based on other people's results, my barrel is not anything special. They are consistantly good barrels and quite affordable. |
