Hmmm maybe, maybe not.

You mean you want to add a 18in barreled shotgun under the stock, or you want to use a SBS mounted under the stock???

I am pretty sure doing that would classify the shotgun as illegal under some BATF law.You might have to register it as a SBR maybe ?

This? It's from KAC.

Why whould the shotty be illegal.  It whould be like taking a grip off the back and screwing it to another larger grip wouldn't it???You can buy combination guns that have both rifle/shotty.   And even if it was considered considered illegal couldnt you register the shotty as a pistol?

It wouldn't be as long as the shotgun has a barrel length of 18inches. If it's smaller than that it is a short barreled shotgun and subject to regulation under the NFA. No tax stamp menas illegal. So if he wants to pay $1,500(thats the last price I saw on the knights masterkey) plus the tax stamp cost and go through all the NFA hoops cool. If he wants to take a 18in barreled shotgun and rig it up cool. I don't think thats illegal at all, but I'm not sure.

This is a dupe.  Look at this thread for more info on this subject.

I still think silly and horribly unbalanced, better with an AOW/SBS down there if at all.  The new XM-26 is the only decent way to go if you could get one.  Operators don't even like the Masterkey, it was only meant for breaching doors and eliminating transitioning to another firearm.  Most teams now use a separate breaching shottie and transition or use a dedicated breaching man.

Do they have to draw straws before the mission to see who has to carry that ugly bastard?

A shotgun not only has to have a barrel length of 18 inches or more, it also HAS to have an overall length of 26 inches or more in order to stay out of the NFA rules.

A remington 870 or a moss 500/590 with no stock and an 18in barrel  will make the OAL requirment, I have measured mine and a buddies 870. Thats the only reason that I did not mention the OAL requirement. Which I should have anyway.

You would need to use a registered SBS to be legal. Can't use an AOW, because attaching it to the AR puts a buttstock on the AOW, making it an unregistered SBS.

Owning an AOW, I had that happy thought, until someone pointed out what I missed. Can't have a buttstock on an AOW.

Now what if you did it with an AR pistol?

Hmmmm....

Cool, that's good to know.  I threw in the OAL requirement to keep anyone from potentially making a SBS w/o knowing it.
