I was looking through atlantic and found an AR that shoots 7.62x39 and uses AK mags. Are these any good? Sounds interesting, might be worth getting just to have the upper. Anyway, if any of you have seen these or know what they shoot like let me know. If theyre accurate im gettin one!

I had a Colt carbine 7.62, it had some funky mags.

I don't think it's possible to use standard AK mags in an unmodified AR lower.

You have to buy these as complete rifles, and the parts aren't functionally interchangable with standard ARs (the upper, lower, bolt/carrier and a few other parts are custom).

It was my understanding (and the claim on their website) that you can use any 7.62x39 upper with this lower with a $75 modification to it that will not stop it from being functional on a standard lower.  It was also my understanding that it used all AR15 lower internals except for the magazine catch and trigger guard.

I have no FIRST hand experience with this item though (yet).  That's just what I've read on THEIR website as well as a couple of threads here on ARFCOM.

I've seen a picture of ARFCOM member "HK_Dude"s AR-47, and it looks SWEET!  Maybe he'll notice this thread and give his $.02

Edited to add:

Found it!

That's my point: a standard 7.62 upper needs to be modified (by widening the upper and cutting channels into the bolt carrier).  Thus, a STANDARD upper will not work on the AR47 lower.  Folks were talking about just buying the lower and dropping their STANDARD uppers on it, which is a no-go.

You have to open them up because the AK magazines are to wide. I remember some guys on here loving their AR47's. Suppose to feed very reliably.

Man if they'd just make it in a piston gun, life would be good.

Oh wait they do it's called an AK hehehe.

But really I'd like to use some of my cool guy stuff for my AR's on a AR-47 type assy.
