It's normal, don't jack with it. In 8 years in the Army I have shot dozens of different M16s, most made that noise. It's a characteristic of the design. |

It is a normal sound. If it really bothers you, you could put some light grease on the spring to quiet it down. But remember, if you do put anything on the spring, it will collect dirt and grit and will have to be cleaned out to prevent damage. I personally would leave it alone. |
then youll have a lot of threads about the clacking noise caused by the bolt

Funny I have a bushmaster m4 type stock that does that. I assume your reffering to the sound the spring makes after it has already slamed a new round home in the chamber. It's sounds like the spring is continuing to vibrate and takes a while to die down. Right?? But I have another bushmaster that I switched out the newer M4 stock for an older CAR collaspable stock that tightens right up after the bolt chambers the next round. Goes from sproong to *quiet* immediately. If you're really unhappy with it, it sounds like the perfect excuse to me to buy a LMT, CRANE, Vltor, or Magpul stock set . Some are like that bud, don't know what to tell you. None of my AR rifles make that noise. Just that one little damn Bushmaster carbine I bought does it?? |

The guy's new. No need to freak out. Welcome to ArfCom desertshadow. That sound is almost a patent to the AR15. There are some solutions listed in this thread that you could try if you get tired of the sound. The sproing sound is regular and as said earlier, it either goes away, or you quit noticing it. |
Hey, I'm feeling generous today. I will send you a much better rifle, called the mini-14. It is a high capacity semi auto that DOESN"T HAVE THE STUPID SPRONG NOISE!!!! All I ask in return is your Bushmaster M-4. I think you will find it is worth it to get rid of that noise!![]() ![]()

Teaching marksmanship was THE best duty I ever had cept for a trippy Carribiean cruise in 75 . 800 times . Well then , if these folks were treated properly you've got 800 new marksmen , most in their 20's thats a pretty good return for a few minuites of your time . And the good news is w/ some 70K members no one really needs to speak up twice till the 800 gets to 50K or so , (except to offer help and encouagement ) when you'll run low on people who enjoy bringing new shooters to the fold . 800 times ? that IS ALOT of help . You guys were helpfull right? |

The best way to approach questions like this is to ask if it's normal or if something's not right with your rifle? That way, you can still get an answer and reduce your chances of being fire bombed like Dresden. Some of us have seen your question and many others posted over and over. No matter how much we stay away from here, when we come back, we see the same group of questions posted over and over. Sometimes, we just decide to post a AGNTSA or something similar. To be blunt, the spring "sproing" thing should be documented in AR manuals or, even better, we should start a FAQ that goes over the info that folks who are new to the AR need to know. At least then, when someone says "I just got my first AR and I have tons of questions", we can just point them to the FAQ. Anyway, I apologize for busting your balls. It's not a very nice way to welcome folks to the site but you did help me come up with a new little phrase (deja' poo) |
This will wear in and smooth out with time. Keep it lubed and clean in the meantime. |
