any comments as to whether these M4s are worth their $1500+ asking price?

Look around, you can get them for much less.  $1500 is a bit too much.

My local dealer offered me one today NIB for $1275.  Nice rifle, just not in the budget right now.

$1500 Thats way to much for a 6920... You should be able to find one for around $1100-$1150...

The cheapest I have seen is $1175 plus tax. I am buying one for myself at $1200 plus shipping and FFL fee.

$  1500.00 is way to high! The supply has caught up to demand , now dealers are going to have to lower their prices to keep these moving.
If your in Georgia, try Clyde Armory in Bogart. I've bought several from them and was very pleased with their service.  The website says $1269.00 but they'll probably go lower if you ask nice.

Clyde Armory has them in the 1200-1300 range.  SAW is 20 minutes away from my house, and if I get one,  I'll get it there.  They charge 1400.  Clyde is the cheapest I've seen. I don't have a link.

last Oct-Dec they were worth $1500, now $1150-$1200 seems to be the norm, they're worth it at that range

I paid $1250 for mine.

It's all a matter of proofing to me. If proofing is important to you, get a Colt. If it is not, a clone will do. The fact is that no one goes to the same measures Colt does in proofing 100% of their rifles, bolts and barrels. This has been debated ad nauseum on this forum. Even Bushmaster admits publicly to only randomly checking barrels for magnetic particle and proof load testing, even though they rollmark all their barrels as if they tested all of them. This practice is not illegal, but is unethical in my opinion. In contrast Colt proofs 100% of their components. Many clone makers have no proofing at all.

Worth it? Many say no. I say it is worth it.

You must decide what is important to you. Saving a buck, or having a fully proofed rifle. If proofing is not critical, there are many clone makers out there such as Bushmaster and Armalite who make excellent rifles, and these may serve you well. I also have several clones that have been good, reliable rifles.

One word of advice. Avoid Vulcan Arms like the plague. If you want to know why, so a search of the archives.

But I digress.

Saw one this weekend at a local gun show for $1050.00

Here you go, Jensen arms has 8 spankin' new LE6920s left, for $1249 ea, going fast on the EE.

Only 8 left

So much for the myth about Colt not selling to civilians.

Mine was $1,250 also. Worth every penny. Was more than I wanted to spend, but, sometimes, if you want something, you gotta work for it =)

and what does an LMT M4 go for, a $1000 maybe?  don't they do all the same proofing that colt does?

At the gunshows here in phoenix,  most dealers try to sell them between 1800 and 2000. SAW sells them cheapest,  for 1400.  It's kind of funny,  those idiots trying to sell them for jacked up prices have about the same number of guns when they leave as they did when they came. I have NEVER seen one for 1200.

I'm trying to remember?  I think I paid $1,200 for mine.

But DR, I have to digress with you.  I've read the debates too, and I've owned one of (apparently the most popular) competetor's.  Which, incidentally, shot full auto intermittentaly from the factory.

I wouldn't argue with anybody over whatever they elected to carry.  If it works for you, perfect.  I wish I had your luck (or didn't have mine?).

I personally own several Colts (and I hate their politics too) and HAVE owned one of the "other guy's," and to me there is definitely a difference.  If I HAD to pay $1,500, I'd just accept it and pay it.  I think if you're patient though, and shop a little, you can probably score one a tad cheaper.  But really, $1,200, $1,500 - if it's what you want, who cares?

Someone better jump on that quick.  That's a great deal for sure.

I'm happy that I paid only $1295 for my HBs, but those days are long gone.
