Well going to be traveling soon and taking my Bushmaster with me.  I need a good and inexpensive case that is airline approved.  Any suggestions?

Pelican

check the AR-15 Slings and Other Accessories section for more threads on cases.

ETA: Airline approved just means that it's lockable. Any $30 hard case from Wal-Mart will meet that requirement.

I guess you get what you pay for, so if you must have cheap, then go with the cheapo walmart case.

I recommend the Pelican 1700.  I can easily hold two 16" barrel AR's and it will give you excellent protection.  A great alternative is the similarly sized Starlite case.

Here is my Pelican 1700.....

Tom,
I like that setup, the case and the carbines. Simplicity at it's finest!
Maybe add a spot for a few mags though.

I second the pelican cases.  This one is a 1750 with 3rd party foam.  Its somewhat heavy, but has wheels.  Its almost a safe its so overbuilt.  The upside is the 'no questions asked' gurantee.  Its got some interesting... peculars... though:

"The Pelican Unconditional Lifetime Guarantee of Excellence If for any reason you are not satisfied with the quality or performance of the Pelican product you have purchased, PELICAN PRODUCTS will gladly replace the product or refund your money (at your option) within thirty days after the purchase through the original Dealer/Retailer. PELICAN PRODUCTS will continue to guarantee the product directly, for a lifetime, against breakage or defects in workmanship. Lifetime guarantee does not cover the lamp or batteries in lights. The "O" rings must be kept greased and replaced if damaged per product instructions. (Replace "O" rings annually or when damaged.) Any liability, either express or implied is limited to replacement of the product. This guarantee is void only if the Pelican product has been abused beyond normal and sensible wear and tear. The above guarantee does not cover shark bite, bear attack, or children under the age of five."

I'm really concerned about those shark attacks.  Those damn thigns hang out down at the range all the time...h.gif

How about the case your Bushmaster came in?  Well, did it come with a case?

Mine came with one.  TOTAL F---ING JUNK.  It didnt even properly fit my 24" barrel (this thing didnt start as a varminter, and thats not a BM barrel) and it was mae from a plastic so flimsy that it would twist and pop open when I put it into the back of my van.    It didnt fit my optics (which i admit are rather large.  Its the same thing you find for really cheap (12 bucks) at walmart.  Its not even fit to carry my cleaning rod, let alone any rifle.  I relegated it to carrying my old pellet rifle.
