I'm New (first post) to AR15.com, very honored to be here, finally. I've built my dream-gun on a bushmaster XM15-A2S frame. I would like to co-witness my iron sights and I'm curious if anyone has one mounted, if so, do you like it? does it keep cool? is the finish durable? and does it permit a suitable mount for a co-witness red dot? Thanks for your time!

Um, are you saying mount an optical sight on the handguards that aren't free floated and aren't tied to the receiver?

There is no M79 rail. Check the number again.

Um, yes, they're set with screws for rigidity, if I'm not mistaken, but then again, that's why I'm asking ;)

The M73 is OK for mounting an optic on, but not the best choice. Stick with the following for optics:

RAS II
LT or DD FF rail
TROY MRF-C

I sell the M73 so e-mail me for pricing (if interested). [email protected]

The M73 is an OK platform for mounting an optic, it's far from the most ideal, but it does work.  I used to mount my Aimpoint on it but I decided to stick with just my irons until I get a flattop upper receiver installed.  I am a very big fan of the M73 handguards, it is extremely stable and rock solid.  The finish holds up perfect  and it stays pretty cool after firing but it is aluminum and after firing a whole bunch of rounds it's going to get a little bit warm but I also use a VG so I don't have a problem.
