| I cant decide on the barrel length I should get. I want a light barrel, this will be for plinking. I dont know if i should go with a 14.5 inch fluted heavy barrel, witha permanetly attached vortex, or a 16 inch fluted barrel with a vortex. The 16 inch barrel is going to be about 100 less than the 14.5 i want. Also could someone post a link the the barrel rifling twist chart. thanks i cant seem to find it.... |
If you want a light barrel, why not get a LIGHT barrel. like a Bushmaster superlight or any type like that. |

14.5" + permanently attached anything is overrated. You gain nothing by going that route and lose muzzle velocity, build flexibility and ease of disassembly. I fell for the "must have what the military has" thing and have since ditched my 14.5" barrel for a 16" barrel. You would never notice the difference between a 14.5" M4 profile barrel with a permanently attached anything and a 16" M4 profile barrel with an A2. YMMV. |
I'd have to agree with Mongo. I went with a 16" on one of my ARs and I'm glad I did. I have had a permanently attached something in the past, and it is my opinion that anything that is permanently attached sucks. Just my opinion, alot of people like them. I'd save the $100.00. MV is not a factor for me though. Not enough difference in MV between the 2 for me. |
| For just plinking Id get a 14.5" M4 profile. Fluted HBAR is much heavier and 16" is heavier than 14.5" and the 14.5" can still have the flash hider removed its just a pain. You should never have a reason to remove it though unless you change FF rail systems. Yes it will cost more to add and remove the flash hider (must be done by a smith) when you need to do that but you will have a 1 MOA capable rifle with the minimum weight and have zero concerns with the barrel heating up. |
