 when firing your AR15, have you ever been hit by one of the shells being ejected?

i shoot left handed, own 2 AR15's and never once been hit in about 4 thousand rounds.

but have you??

Lefty here also. and never been hit.
Well I did because I had an old towel over the action and the casings dropped on my forearm. I did this as a suggestion from a friend after he was getting pelted by my brass on the next bench over.

The first time I fired an M16 (with 5.56mm ammo, that is-basic training had us use .22 adapters , the instructors put a hard plastic brass deflector on them.  That brass deflector very accurately targeted my right forearm so the brass hit me just about every time.  I wound up with two burns that were perfectly shaped like cases.

Other than that, the only time I've been whacked by my own empties has been when I was close to the right end of a covered firing line, and the cover supports bounced the brass back at me.
