Has anyone ever used dish soap (not dish washer liquid) or hand soap to clean a lower? I heard some where that this could ruin the finish or aluminum becasue of alkaline properties. I thought most dish soap or hand soap was neutral. Has anyone ever cleaned a lower this way? |
| I use to own a Colt SP-1 and it got very muddy sometimes. It seen a lot of bathtub cleanings using dishwashing liquid. In the military, it's nothing to shower with your rifle after coming back from field exercises. So don't worry, just get it good and dry (maybe use an air compressor) and oil it up well. |

It won't hurt it. Remember, these things are built for war. We will use soap and water on our weapons after use in salt water environments. I oil it up, scrub the crap out of it to loosen the dirt or whatever, then pour dish soap in and use very hot water to rinse and shake it out afterwards, the heat will evaporate the excess water out. "Dawn lifts the grease out of your way." Then light oil on the springs. Works great on Berettas too. I hit the steel (bbl, carrier) with clp and wipe it dry, enough soaks in to protect it. If the lower discolors you can apply clean oil and wipe dry for an even color. It only discolors because it's been de-greased of everything that's been touching it, (snot, skin oils, precious bodily fluids.) A chaulky finish is what was meant for it, non-reflective. Don't have a poser rifle! |
