Look at the area just above and to the right of the ejection port. A Colt built upper will have two very small stampings in that area; a small square, and a triangle. You may need a strong light and a magnifying glass to spot them, or they may be very visisble; depending on how deep the stampings were at the factory. |
I think these markings were only applied to uppers that shipped as part of a complete M16 rifle. So, if your upper was shipped from Colt as a replacement part these very faint square and triangle markings may not be present. Joe |
You upper has an MPC marked bolt, a 'C' marked carrier, MP C marked barrel and a C on the forged front sight. The marks are by the ejection port. Very faint after the anodizing, but they are there. The C H mentioned above came much later. Also your upper is very early Colt Grey. No other MFG for Viet Nam era used that color, most others were dark charcoal or some had a gold tint. Denny |
The uppers Denny has are legit (as I have some as well). C4 |

Thanks DR Any idea when FN started making them? There are no other markings ont it. it doesn't even have the twist or caliber markings....just FNMI MP Chrome Bore. Bolt is MPC, carrier unmarked. Upper just has the triangle/square stamps, no forging codes. FSB is marked 3 R and a crown it looks like..... I'm not versed on my M16 markings.......... Thanks |
