When you say it is harder to clean a non chrome barrel how hard is it?Are all other barrels for guns not chromed lined ?

Generally only military style rifles have chrome lined barrels and chamber.  The lining adds to durability/longevity of a barrel but to a very slight extent reduces accuracy.

Over the years improved technoligy has reduced the impact to accuracy considerably.

The harder chrome surface is easier to clean but if you regularly clean your rifle after each outing most will not notice a difference.

I have found chromed bores easier to clean when they have relatively low mileage.  Copper fouling seems to be much less.  I can get by with powder solvent.

I find that as they start to get worn cleaning becomes no less/more difficult vs. chrome-moly.  At this point copper solvent is helpful.

Guns that will possibly see life-defending use will usually be chrome lined, with the exception of most long-range precision rifles.  (FN's new sniper rifle is chrome lined though)

Most guns not designed for protecting life usually do not.

I personally think that the $50 difference is worth the use of correct 4150 barrel steel and the correct barrel lining.  Whether the fifty bucks is worth it to you is obviously up to you.

Hope this helps!

So if I shot an intruder in the face with a 4140 barrel and a 4150 chrome lined barrel, do you think he'd know the difference?

Chrome serves one real purpose

Protecting the barrel from being destroyed quicker from wear and elements

Hmm...

Well, if you missed the mark but your gun had stopped firing after only a few rounds...YOU might!

Seriously, the chrome lining and correct materials may really only provide a small advantage in reliability, and you have to decide if the extra cost is worth that difference.  Maybe the $50 is better spent on one night out with your woman.  Maybe your house could use 5 new bath-towels.  Maybe the $50 could be better spent on 10 trips the Taco-Bell, or McD's!  It's up to you.

Please define "correct," and please tell me the difference between 4140 and 4150.

Thanks is advance.
