I went to a local store and picked up a Dewey black coated rod.  They had a bigger size but it looked like it would just about fit in the .223 bore, it looked like it would rub the entire way.  So I bought the smaller rod.  When I got it home I found a .177 jag taped to it, so I assume this is a .177rod.  The problem is that none of my jags or brushes fit this rod, I need jags and brushes with a smaller "screw" to fit into this thin rod.

I like the rod, it doesn't deflect much and it is the perfect length for my M4.  Is there anywhere online that I can buy .223 brushes and jags that will fit this smaller rod?  Or atleast an adapter?

Thanks.

I use a boresnake as well, but it just doesn't get everything out of there, you need to do a little rod work.

Come on guys, help a brother out!

I can't find an adapter or brushes for that size shaft anywhere.  Anyone?

I don't personally know of any adaptors to use with the rod.  I think the trouble is that any of the larger jags would be larger than the .177 bore, hence no adaptors for it.  Be easier just to get another rod to work with.

Try to find out what the thread size is on your cleaning rod and the jags you want to use.  Then do an online search.

I was hoping someone made an adapter to use bigger tools on the smaller rod.  I don;t like the way the bigger Dewey rod would be rubbing my bore the entire way, which is why I got the smaller rod.

Well, you can take the small and larger jag to the hardware store and use various nuts to determine the thread pitch.  Once you have established the different thread pitches, you can start searching for thread adaptors.

From what I can tell, the cleaning rods that are setup for .22 caliber and up, just need to change the jag/brush diameters to make it work for the various callibers.  Since .177 seems to be in a league all by its self, you may have trouble finding what you are looking for.

However, with the interest in the 17 caliber rifles right now, your luck may change.  You could try Brownells and see what they have to offer.

It looks as if 17 caliber use 5-40 thread pitch
most of what I found for larger calibers use 8-32 thread pitch

You are in luck.  Check here at Brownells jag adaptors

You wouldn't actually have problems using the .22 cal rod.  It appears larger than .22, and the Dewey .30 rod appears larger than .30, but its an illusion.  I use the BoreSnake and a Dewey .22 cal rod.  In the future you may want to just get the .22 cal rod.

Oh I believe that it fits, it just seems a little too big, as if it's going to rub more than it should.
