I am looking to get either a M4 type with a PWA lower and M4 upper or a straight up Colt Ar-15 16" sporter.  Which to get?  They are both preban.  The M4 has a picantinny rail up top with no rear sight and the Colt seems to be in A1 config as far as the pistol grip and sights are concerned.

Does PWA make good stuff?... I figure I just get the Colt as it is all original and I could eventually convert it to A2 config.

Thanks for the replys.  Thats where I was leaning anyway.  Its a pre-ban in A1 config with 16"  barrel and with the short slim handguard that doesnt appear to be flared out towards the rear.  It's 100% original Colt.

I would save the cash and buy the PWA. Do you know who made the M4 upper? I ran a preban PWA lower with LMT M4 upper setup for years with zero problems. As a matter of fact that preban PWA lower was one of the nicest I have ever owned. Fit and finish was awesome and it had one sweet trigger. It would still be my primary carbine if I had not traded it to help out a fellow ARFCOM member living in a state with an AWB. Why spend the extra money converting the Colt to an A2 just to get a name? That cash could be spent on optics and ammo. I would be willing to bet most guys replying on this thread have never even handled a PWA. I have owned both. Hell,  I own a new PWA lower that I’m in the process of registering SBR.  My suggestion would be to buy the PWA never look back.

I probably wont alter the Colt as the handle is fixed to the receiver.  I would only alter the pistol grip to A2.  I can always get an M4 upper some time down the road.
