I am thinking of getting one, how do you guys like yours ??? I thought I heard about parts of the hand getting 'pinched' , is that true? Please give me some feedback on thier comfort and durability. |

I HAVE BEEN A DEDICATED SIERRA PRECISION GRIP USER FOR FIVE YEARS. THE NEW MIAD IS THE FIRST GRIP THAT HAS COME ALONG THAT HAS MADE ME CONSIDER SWITCHING. I THINK THAT THE MIAD IS THE BEST GRIP AVAILABLE FOR AMBI USE, BAR NONE. THAT COMBINED WITH THE FACT IT CAN PUT THE TRIGGER FINGER IN THE CORRECT POSITION MAKES IT POSSIBLY THE BEST CHOICE FOR A NO-SHIT FIGHTING GUN. WES GRANT M.S.T.N. |

I have big hands, but not real long fingers. The A2 grip is way to small for my hand. Tried a couple of others (G27), and it was okay. Bought a pre-production MIAD, and it was night and day difference. I put it on my carbine, shot it for a couple of months, and then went back to my rifle that had a Hogue overmolded A2 grip. Hand felt it was in the wrong place. Bought another one just this week, and will buy another when my other AR shows up. Best grip I've used so far. |

MIADS are on two of my 4 ARs. Just dont make the mistake I did. I was at the airport and when to check my AR and they did the "Theres no ammo in the case?" I said of course not. About 5 minutes later they said "Im sorry sir theres been a problem with your rifle and were going to have to call the police" A couple minutes later a cop shows up and they tell him I've been hiding rounds in the pistol grip. YIKES! Dont forget to take those out! The cop I think sensed I was just a normal guy who made a stupid mistake so he was cool with it. Just learn from my mistake, and TAKE THOSE EXTRA ROUNDS OUT AT THE AIRPORT! |

It's perfect for me because I don't like the finger groves that's in the A2 grip. I bought a full kit from Denny at GlobalTactical.com (at the EE) a few weeks ago and I used the front strap without the finger groove, that solved my problem. I already had the Magpul enhanced aluminum trigger guard so I didn't use the front strap with the plastic trigger guard. There are three rear panels also and for my personal choice, the mid size fits the size of my hand. I could also switch to the smaller size if I'm using gloves. There is also a front panel included for converting it to a vertical grip (vertical grip mount not included). That's the advantage of this MIAD grip system, you could quickly change it to any situation and also adjust it to your hand. It fits great on my Colt Tactical Carbine lower and installation was very quick and easy, I used my long arm hex key. For more info go to the Industry Forums and check out Magpul articles. |
Hmm....I'm a SPG guy too. Everything else out there is too skinny but I've been thinking about the MIAD because of the ambi use and lack of finger groove. |

I JUST MOUNTED UP ANOTHER MIAD TO A NEW LOWER WITH A CHIP MCCORMICK TRIGGER. THIS MIAD IS RECESSED FOR NON-SKID. I NEED TO GET THAT PDF FILE FROM MAGPUL WITH THE PATTERNS FOR THE TAPE. YES, I AM DIGGING MINE. PIX SOON. WE HAVE MORE IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED. WES GRANT M.S.T.N. |

AMZ, This is the most comfortable grip I have ever held! I have 4 ARs and I would like to eventually have a MAID on all 4. Someone else mentioned pinching problems; I have had none. Also, if you install the frontstrap with the enlarged trigger guard housing, there is no need for a gapper. -JD |

I like mine. I have three total at this point. All my grips from this point until something better comes along will be MIADs. I am interested to see what the production versions will be like since the "checkering" on the pre-production models was not "aggressive" enough. The grip is good to go as is, but my 3M tape grip really sticks in your hand. Overall great grip! Spooky |
Could someone please set the record straight regarding "pre-production", the current offerings on the EE, and the "final version" which has not been released. This is the one thing that has kept me from buying one of these to try. If I buy one now what will the deal be for the upgrade? Do I keep the one I have or I will I have to pull it and send it back, etc.? Which version of the grip includes all of the pieces? Are all of the grips out now the 3M version?![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

All the Magpul products that I have bought were top notch in quality. The MIAD grip was exactly what I wanted. I dont like the feeling of a "sticky" rubber type of grip. This one feels like my plastic Sig grip and my finger is on the trigger more appropriately. http://tinypic.com/4jm4ap http://tinypic.com/4jm5qq Hope this helps... |

I don't know if the final platic has been determined, but I broke the tape version of my main grip. I sent it in to Magpul after emailing Rich and not too long afterwards, I received an entire new kit consisting of everything that was in the preorder, except for the aluminum triggerguard and a textured main grip. Rich had originally said they'd when they came up with the final plastic, they'd offer a one to one trade in. You do not have to remove the grip to swap out backstraps-only for changing the frontstraps- which is just perfect in my opinion. |

I ordered an MIAD full kit last week Monday -had it Wednsday from MAGPUL, I got hot on it reading this thread and looking @ Denny Guns thread on the EE, I called all morning and I couldn't get Denny and ended up calling MAGPUL and saved $6.00 w/shipping and got to talk to Rich Fitz for about 10 minutes he explained the glass to composite ratio was going to be one of the differences in the new release MIAD and the height of the stippleing as opposed to the pre-production version MIAD grip, I didn't ask for a release date but it would appear after giving my order to one of his gang it should be in the next couple of months - who knows?? I like the grip -perhaps too many options, I popped out the pin several times before I decided on a grip configuration I'll stick with. The storage compartments are slick -overall not bad delivered for a couple of Hamiltons... I melted some of the edges out with a small stone I have and now it feels very comfortable. Not that the edges were irritating I just don't like 'em. |

HOME DEPOT HAD THE 3M NON-SKID. I NEEDED SOME FOR MY BENELLI M3S90 FOREND, ANYWAY. WHILE IT TOOK A WHILE TO DO MY FIRST SET OF PANELS, I AM EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THE RESULTS. I LIKED THE MIAD GRIP, ANYWAY. THE NON-SKID JUST MAKES A GREAT PISTOL GRIP EVEN BETTER. USE SOME SHARP SCISSORS CUTTING THE NON-SKID. I PLAN TO TRY A PAPER CUTTER FOR THE ALL OF THE STRAIGHT EDGES NEXT TIME. WES |
Yeah, could someone be so kind as to explain the difference(s) bewtween them? Do I have to tempt you with a BOTD pic ?Thank you for your time, -Justin |

I like the basic concept real well. Personally, I just think it is too fat for my tastes. I don't want/need any storage inside, that's what I have pockets and webgear for. What I want is a basic normal sized ultra-lightweight grip that is rugged. Have no use for storage compartments. I think the modular concept for individual fit is great, but it is still too fat. I like the A2 grip, but do prefer an arched backstrap, but without the curved part that goes up to the buffer tube. What I want is just a simple ultralight grip. It seems that there is a big rush to lightweight everything, except for grips and buttstocks. Seems the trend in buttstocks is to get heavier than the other guy, and now getting close to 2 pounds for a collapsing stock! Nobody even seems to think that a quarter pound to half pound grip is even a problem. Everyone seems to be enamored with big chunky grips that weigh a ton, and can carry the kitchen sink inside them. |
It seems like a lot of us are going with the largest backstrap (I'd actually like one a little larger) and the most plain front strap. I don't like the finger bump on teh A2 and like the finger bump on the MIAD even less. But the basic frontstrap is perfect IMO. |

ON THE WEIGHT ISSUE: HERE ARE A COUPLE OF RELEVANT FACTS. THE MAGPUL WITH THE BIGGEST BACK STRAP WEIGHS IN AT 2.8 OUNCES. WITH THE SMALLEST, 2.5 OUNCES. THE STOCK A2 GRIP, FOR COMPARISON'S SAKE, WEIGHS 2.2 OUNCES. ME, I CAN LIVE WITH THE WEIGHT DIFFERENCE. HOP, I'M WITH YOU. I CAN [BARELY!] PALM A BASKETBALL, SO I COULD POSSIBLY USE A GRIP A LITTLE BIGGER. BUT FOR MOST, ONE OF THE THREE SIZES WILL BE FINE. WHAT I LIKE IS HOW IT GETS THE HAND HIGHER ON THE GUN. ME, I LIKE THE FRONT FINGER GROOVE. NICE TO HAVE CHOICES, ISN'T IT? HAMMERDROP - NO MORE TALKING TO RICH ON THE PHONE, OK? HE HAS STUFF TO BUILD FOR ALL OF US AND NO TIME. OF COURSE, RICH IS SO COURTEOUS ON THE PHONE YOU'D NEVER KNOW HE EVEN HAD A JOB HE NEEDED TO DO. VANDAL - NICE PAIR, VERY PROFESSIONALLY SET UP. CONSIDERING A QUICK TOUR IN BAGDHAD? WES |
This pretty much mirrors my thoughts. The Magpul with fat backstrap puts my finger in the same position as the Sierra Precision Grip. For me the big difference is the Magpul does it by changing the front to back distance while the Sierra does it with a fat palm swell and a pad on the right side of the grip near the trigger Unlike Wes, I am not considering switching because I still like the Sierra better; however, the MIAD is a nice grip with added features (storage) and is a lot more ambi-friendly than the Sierra. |

Hoplophile, Thanks for the tip. I'm already using the Lone Star Stowaway grip right now, and that's what I like in terms of shape. But it is very thick and heavy, so I did some lightening mods to cut the weight a bit. I also cut off the trap-door on the bottom, and don't use it for storage. What I would like to see is about a 1 ounce grip, or maybe 1.5 ounces, which is made of some kind of carbon fiber skin over a structural foam core, or something like that, which would be light and strong, with a basic ergonomic shape like the Lone Star Stowaway grip, and is not big, and has no storage. Or maybe even some kind of "skeletonized" grip, which is just a frame. Or maybe a modified oval grip that is like the FAL grip design, made from a very lightweight and strong material that would cut weight from the normal design. I've talked with Mack at MGI about making one, but we have so many projects going right now that we can't go into making a grip. I suppose I'll have to wait until we can make one, because it seems like nobody else ever makes the stuff I want. It would be nice, just once, to be able to go out and buy something that is just what I want, without having to make it. |
