hello all.  i was wondering if there's a difference in accuracy between an AR with a collapsable stock and an AR with the full stock like the A2.  it doesn't seem like there should much of a difference but i'm new to ARs and i'd like to know.  thanks.

The entire lower receiver assembly has basically nothing to do with the accuracy of the rifle itself, however, ergonomic factors such as length of pull, cheek weld, eye relief, and trigger pull can affect the shooter's accuracy.

Welcome to the site!

personally, i see no difference in the stocks (16in bbls) and accuracy

h/w, there are many factors, such as bbl style/size, posision of shooting, chamber tightness, ammo, etc--i would not rate the stock to be a major factor in accuracy

h/w, the stock that fits you best, that gives you the most comfortable length of pull, and stability would probably give you the best, more comfortable shooting possible

i would use the fixed stock (ACE) if you are accuracy orientated

also, having a 20in bbl and a collapsable stock would be kinda forend heavy and feel weird to shoot standing......

I think of the two stocks as being in two different environments: collapsible for shoot 'n move work, fixed for sit 'n shoot.  I realized that's a gross generalization, but I think you see what I'm trying to say.

At any rate, I've never felt that I've suffered a loss of accuracy while shooting my 16" rifles with their collapsible stocks vs. shooting my 20" rifle with its fixed stock, even when using both in a "tactical" training environment.  The collapsible stock offers me greater choices in LOP is all.

I keep a lucky charm in my A2 trapdoor.  It helps my accuracy.

Get a Magpul stock and you'll have a stock with the flexibility of the collapsible stock and the rigidity of a fixed stock.

That's not necessarily true. It would depend upon the configuration of the upper (rail system and barrel type) as well as the weight of the collapsible stock. As far as it feeling "weird", that's completely subjective. I have shot both and didn't find that the 20" w/collapsible felt "weird".

For real shooting (unsupported), I don't notice any difference. For bench shooting, the M4 has play in it, not a good thing. Also the A2 has a larger area for rear bag support.
My 2 pesos......

Wait - but doesn't the shorter and stronger springs of collapsible stocks provide a shorter cycle and quicker means of follow-up shots?

I am a torn individual. I HATE M4 and CAR stocks, shit weld, rattly, ugly. I love the Magpul, but cant afford one again right now. The A2 stock is WAY too long for my squared stance, so I bought a RRA entry stock for cheap, and put a 1" long recoil pad on it. I love it. Its short, solid, comfy, sticks to my shoulder pocket, and doesnt RATTLE!

Beetle,

I think in theory, yes, but in practicality, you would have to have some MAJOR catlike reflexes to take advantage of the lock-up difference.

Full auto would be a big difference if faster cycle rate though, right?
