I might want to build a 7.62 AR for myself. Anyone have any experience with these, and how do they compare to the .223. Also who has the best kit for these and how availabe are the mags?

You can use regular .223 mags for the 7.62x39 but don't expect to get more than 5 or 6 rounds.  Stay away from old preban USA mags (except the FrankenMags).  Best bet for new production is  DPMS but the mags are pricey ~45 each last I checked.

I've got a 7.62 x 39 setup.  It's fun to shoot.  It just kinda feels like a bigger bang when the trigger is pulled.  Ammo is cheap.  Frankenmags work well, but still not 100%.  I think the mag looks kind of ugly in the AR at first, then it starts to grow on you.

Somebody makes AR-15 lowers that take AK mags.

I forget who.

They require fitting of the upper and bolt carrier to allow for the larger magazine lips, but they sure look like fun! Very reminiscent of the Stoner SR-47, that we aren't allowed to play with. I don't know too much more about them, except that I'm saving parts to build one!

They're a lot of fun... this one belongs to another board member.
