I never could afford a factory model, so the first one I owned was a self build... Still have it. Everything since then has been self built as well seems to be the only way to get exactly what I want when I want it. Even now that I can afford to buy whatever I want I still have more satisfaction from building exactly what I want and knowing I built it. |

Up to 5 AR's in the safe now. LOL They keep multiplying! Uppers seem to swtich between most of my rifles. right now I have 5 AR-lowers, and 6 uppers 1. Colt R6830 - Has Colt M4A3 upper in 5.56mm installed. Small Push pin lower. 2. Colt R6520 AR-15A2 Government Carbine - Has Colt M4A3 Upper in 5.56mm installed. Small push pin lower 3. Colt R6700 - Sporter Match HBAR - currently has the original upper from my R6520 installed on it. This lower is a large pin lower. Rarely change the uppers due to large pin size. 4. Colt R6450 - 9mm Carbine. Upper NEVER changes on this one. Registered as a SBR 5. Oly Arms forged lower - small pin. Currently has the 7.62x39mm upper from the R6830 installed. One thing I love about AR-15's is the ability to change uppers and calibers sooo easily. Very flexible! |

Half of my rifles are self-builds and the ones that aren't all have have 'smithing done to them by myself. Both of my AR's are self-builds. My very first AR was a self-build, i couldn't believe how easy it was. IMHO if you have the skills to do a tune up on your car, you can roll your own with confidence. |

All of mine started as complete factory weapons, then ended up cannibalized with all parts (except the lower) changed out/modified/traded/sold etc. I didn't intend to do this to the weapons, they just ended up that way. This forum was a lot to blame. AR's are hard to come by here, no way to pick and choose different models or configurations. So when you come across one for sale you either pass or go the ATM real quick. I used to buy any quality brand AR that I came across. Now I just say, "I only want your lower!" |

i never realized it until now....but i've never bought a factory AR. i currently have 9 complete ARs, and have been thru many in the past....none purchased as more than a complete upper. come to think of it, my very first AR was the only one i've ever bought as a complete rifle! (and that was a gunshow mixmatch piece that was quickly stripped and "redistributed") |
| Well, I don't officially own one yet. However, I am blue printing my first build. I am having trouble deciding what I'm gonna do, but buying a store bought complete isn't on my list. AR parts are available in abundance so I'm not to worried about warranty. Besides, it's a good learning experience that costs less. |
