Today I was bored and looking at stuff in the safes I haven't fired for a while and ran into this.

My question is which is correct for this rifle, a lock washer or peel washer? I remember experimenting with different muzzle devices a long time ago but can't remember what the Colt factory used originally. There is a peel washer on it now but a lock washer is in the butt of the rifle with a bag of small parts.
Anyone own an AR15 A2 Sporter II? (mfg from '87 - '89 if I remember correctly)

Peel washer  would be correct for that rifle. Mine have all had them & would be nessesary to correctly index the flash hider.

Ahhhh, to index the FH!! I haven't shot this one for at least eight years but it just feels "right" when I shoulder it, unlike the collapsible stocks I've been shooting.
Think I'll have to take this one out to the range soon.
Thanks!

Sort of an interesting hybrid that rifle huh?

Slabside lower, A1 type upper but with round FA, A2 furniture, and collar.  Does it have an A2 profile barrel or an HBAR?

It is curious, a sladside lower, but marked "A2", with an A2 grip. A C7 upper, with, probably, an A2 front end.

I had one just like that!Bought at a store in San Marcos CA,I had a helluva time finding a range to shoot even in '87.

I'd love to have that exact model, too. I like the adjustability of the A2 sights for the range, but prefer the ruggedness of the A1's for a working gun. As a southpaw, I'd like the C7 upper for the brass deflector. You've just gotta love those transitional Colts! I've got an "AR-15 A2 Government Model" from '89 that is a full A2 upper on a slabside lower. I totally agree about the "feel" of these older Colts, so much so that they're all I own now.
Nice rifle!
