Hi
Im wanting to export to New Zealand a Rock River Arms A4 Varmit with an 18 inch barrel. Any comments on this particular model would be of great help.
My question being does anyone have any suggestions as to who to go to in regard of exporting rifles overseas?
Ive found two companies but they add $250.00 to the purchase price and charge another $200.00 documentation fee - the documentation fee i dont mind but the extra $250 over retail is a bit much.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks
Muzr

Just a guess here but what if the AR15 was dis-assembled into gun parts and shipped in seperate packages, would that make things easier???

For instance a stripped lower, would that cost the same and be considered a firearm arriving in New Zealand?

The internals could arrive later......

Sorry I can't be much help, but where there's a will sometimes there's a way.

I exported several rifles to Panama.  I paid Bushmaster to do the first one.  I saw how they did it and did it myself for the rest.  Contact the U.S. State Department.  I had to send them a letter with the rifle serial number and explain the purpose.  They, then sent me the approval.

Honestly I'm surprised you'd find someone to export 1 rifle - seeing what a PITA it is with the new arms export rules.

There is a tremendous amount of paperwork involved with exportation of firearms which dictates the prices you have been quoted. I am actually in the transportation business / Intl Freight Forwarding and firearms are one of the biggest PITA. You have to deal with US Customs & the BATF and depending on your situation it may require authorization from the State department for an export license. Also have you gotten authorization from New Zealand customs to see if your rifle can be shipped into the country?

My suggestion would be first check with customs in New Zealand if you can import the rifle. Once you get confirmation that you can then check with a local freight forwarded such as Panalpina, Exel Logistics, EGL Logistics, or BAX Global where you can actually speak to someone directly that can help you and the pricing should be a little more competitive as many of these forwarders have regular weekly consolidation of freight moving into Auckland.

I've just had an AR15 approved for export by the state dept & should have it in a couple weeks. Costs were $100 for  state dept application fee (non refundable) $100 for  exporter fee, $200 for shipping (a bit steep but hey I'm not arguing at least the job is being done). Mail me at [email protected] for details.

Thanks for that - this end is reatively easy - there is no problem with customs once you have got an import permit.
I will check up on the freight side of things.
