Hey all, I just received my new 20" stainless bull barrel for my second build. I noticed a large burr inside about 3/4 the way through and seem to be unable to remove it even with a wire brush. I managed to knock the top part away but the main chunk of it is there to stay (the rest of the barrel is perfect). I got this from a reputable dealer on the boards, should I look into returning it or just shoot the damn thing and see if its just a stubborn leftover from the milling?

Its not easy trying to snap an inside pic of the barrel...

Possibly, all I have to go by is my other barrel and it's not the same. You can physically feel the "burr" area when you go over it. Shooting it will most likely smooth it over, least the spike of it is gone.

If I had a better camera you could of seen what was on the tv was the best/easiest light source I could find.

I had a similar issue with the barrel of a 24" upper I had purchased from J&T some time back, and posted the same question here and on TheHighRoad.org. The burr apparently resulted from the drilling of the gas port hole, and the general concensus was to just shoot the burr out (which I did, with no problems).

Shoot it and it will smooth out.

Thanks all, that's exactly the reassurance that I was looking for. I purchased the barrel from J&T as well.. my initial reaction was to just shoot it but I was a little hesitant due to a what if factor. I'm taking her to the range to smooth it over, shouldn't be an issue at all.
I appreciate the replies.

Looks like the gas port.

A good 'smith could lap that out, but it may cost a little bit.  You could shoot it out also, but there's no guarantee if it will or how long it will take to shoot it out, the whole time it may be affecting your accuracy.

That's the gas port.  They are more or less visible depending on if they end up in a groove or land.  No big deal.
