Burst maximum effective rate of fire?!?!?
never heard of that, but there is sustained, rapid and cyclic

Maximum effective range is 550m WTF is all these ranges in the thousands? Maybe they mean maximum range???

some of the wording is F'd up

it also says to check the chamber after immidiate action, unless I'm totally lost, you only check the chamber during REMEDIAL action hence the "O" for observe in sports. tap rack bang is immediate action.

I'm still learning about AR and M16, I really don't know much about AR/M16. My score is "11"

Don't worry, try to get your hands on some Marine corps or army knowledge, that would give you what you want and you'll see what I mean when I say the wording is f'd up.

Neat quiz.  There is some obscure info in there.  I scored a 17.

Errg I scored a 24.  I'm still trying to figure out how they are going to get a chamber brush into the gas releif ports of a bolt carrier (those holes on the side of the carrier).  I've always used a pipe cleaner...

You quiz is flawed. Your question about the 3 round burst fire mode assumes a US Military M16A2. Many M16A2s were made for various agencies and nations by Colt with semi/full auto fire capability.

I got 11 too. I know quite a bit about my AR15, but none of the military stuff.

_DR that's interesting info.

Again don't sweat the military info because it is not worded correctly, it is, as _DR said, flawed

Scored a 24, can't believe I remember the military knowledge stuff. Course, it has only been 5 years since I got out.

This had me a bit vexxed given the mulitple choice answers provided:
What is the maximum effective range of the M16A2 rifle?
I think it should read:
What is the maximum effective range of the M16A2 rifle?
The M24 Sniper System isn't even effective at the range choices given

What is used to clean the gas relief ports on the bolt carrier of an M16A2 rifle?
Maybe on some other plane of existence a chamber brush can fit through the relief ports, but not in this one. Only one that I missed.

I paid attention in class...  I got a 20!
3/16/2005 12:07:53 PM EDT

18

i missed:

the weight with mag and sling,
rear sight adjustment at 25 meters,
how many lands and grooves,
what is used to the the gas relief ports on the bold carrier,
the length,
chamber pressure,
muzzle velocity

i suck at this game, let's play another...

Good points on both.  Yep that is the same one I missed.  I think the test writer got their terms mixed up (on several occasions).

Doh!!! I didn't realize I didn't answer question 11. I only scored an 11.

FYI - all the answers are in the -10 (Operator's Manual) which is available for download for free from this and other websites.

If you haven't read it yet, I'd highly reccomend you do.

3/16/2005 4:50:21 PM EDT

I got a 17 despite the poorly worded questions.  That and that I've never fired an A2, just A1's.  Guess what questions I got wrong?  The questions where the A2 was different from the A1 like the rear sight and rates of fire.

22, never heard of LAW, is that a Air Force thing, something new, or what?
3/16/2005 6:14:52 PM EDT
[#32]
No not new, cant recall what it stands for Lubricating (something) Winter I think.....been a while since I did mountain warfare training....where we learned about it but never even used it.

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what LAW stands for either, but I thought I read yesterday in the PS magazine that LSA is still the standard for cold weather ops.

Army thing, been around 20 years or so.  If you didn't serve in really cold climates the only way you would have heard of it was to read the -10 (It's mentioned in the 'special climate considerations' section of the lube/maitenace chapter).

Edited to Add
LAW - Lubricating oil, Arctic Weapons.  It is mentioned on page 28 of the -10 and page 78 (LAW is also mentioned in the notes at the begining of the -10 but it doesn't explain it till p28).

I feel bad I was an armor and kept 150 M16A2 goin plus 50's and MK19 and I only scored a 16.

NOTE: If your rifle malfunctions, remember S-P-O-R-T-S. This key word will help you remember these actions in sequence: Slap, Pull, Observe, Release, Tap, Shoot.

a. Slap upward on the magazine to make sure it is properly seated.

b. Pull the charging handle all the way back.

c. Observe the ejection of the case or cartridge. Look into the chamber and check for obstructions.

d. Release the charging handle to feed a new round in the chamber. Do not ride the charging handle.

e. Tap the forward assist.

f. Shoot. If the rifle still does not fire, inspect it to determine the cause of the stoppage or malfunction and take appropriate remedial action.

That is a civie M16A2, a military rifle in that configuration would be a M16A3 (and would not be Colt), and this is a "military" quiz.

18....

I missed the questions regarding maximum effective range and maximum sustained fire and such.

I also am puzzled by the one saying to use a chamber brush to clean the gas ports. I thought it was supposed to be a pipe cleaner.
