I have been planning on ordering some Magpuls for my mags, but notice most dealers are now only carrying the Rangers.  Is one better than the other?  Advantages of one over the other or just preference?  Also, I cheated and had the Magpul stock installed on my new lower by the dealer and can hear something that is moving freely inside the buffer tube, is that normal for Magpul?

There are lead weights inside the buffer itself.  They are there to dampen buffer/bolt movement to prevent bolt bounce.  If you shake the buffer, you will hear them.

The MagPul/Ranger Plate is simply a preference issue.  Some folks prefer one over the other.  Lots of vendors sell MagPuls.  Check the EE.
