A person at my local range said Bushmaster competition DCM Rifle has had some problems in the past. Is this true (I.E they use a chrome moly barrel)

Mmm, chrome moly doesn't seem like it'd be a problem per se.  Was he more specific about the problems they had?

He said "compared to stainless steel there was an accuracy difference."

Then I can see his point regarding competition; chrome-moly vs. stainless.

I'm not an authority on this, but, yes, staineless is more accurate than chrome-moly when you're doing pinpoint stuff.  This isn't so much a 'problem' as it is barrel performance.  If you do a quick search, you'll find some grub on the subject pretty quick.

Chromelined is less accurate, if you are comparing apples to apples.

(a good chromelined barrel will outshoot a poor non-lined barrel)

I don't see how a chromemoly barrel would be any better or worse than a stainless steel barrel.  It's the chromeplating that can have a little effect on accuracy.

Many folks confuse chromoly (the steel it's made from) with chromelined (a plating on the inside of the bore/chamber)

I think that person was talking out their ass.

I recall reading an opinion someplace.
The writer stated that far more matches were won by SS barrels than others.  It was his opinion that SS was a better material for a match grade barrel, but no material was good if the workmanship of it's creator was crap.

Maybe someone should tell Chris Atkins, he’s the junior who won the 2004 President’s 100 with a Bushmaster DCM/CMP rifle.
