I took it to the range today and put 100 rounds through it. Function was perfect and accuracy was decent for 100 yards and brisk winds. My best 5 shot group was a 1 inch wide and 4 inch tall cluster. I will work on the trigger a bit and try again. I am so used to my Mini30, CETME and Garands that the .223 recoil felt like a 22 rimfire.

It is a J&T 16" lightweight A2 CAR kit with M33 front handguard and M4 tele stock on a STAG lower. I added a Badger Ordnance Tac Latch and have a vertical grip coming. The mags are 20 rd marked NHMTG  Hartford, CT.

It took about 1 1/2 hours to put together last night.

Stop breathing!

No, seriously. If you got a group that was tall but narrow thats a breathe control issue. remember to exhale completely and slowy squeeze the trigger. With a little practice you can close up that group drastically! Good luck bro!

It could also be 42 year old eyes. The front sight is about the perfect width for the targets I get from my range so it is fairly easy to center the rifle side to side. Let me at least blame it on the brand new, not broken in stock single stage trigger.

Fixed it for you.  The trigger will break in, and that will help you with the breathing thing by being smoother.  And a lighter trigger is nice, but a trigger that's too light is as bad as one that's too heavy.

Edit: fixed my fix.  I thought I knew board code...

I didnt think about the fact its unbroken in, sorry for jumping conclusions. Im sure with a few hundred rounds things will start to run cherry.

Is the barrel chrome lined?  How much was the kit?

I chose not to get a chrome lined barrel for monetary and accuracy reasons. I am unlikely to be slogging around the jungle not cleaning my rifle.

The CAR kit and all options can be found here:

I went ahead and put together the second kit tonight. It is a J&T 20" A2 HBAR no-ban kit on a STAG lower with free float handguard. This is to be my entry to Service Rifle match competition. This one has a much better trigger than the CAR. I think I will order a RRA 2-stage trigger for the this rifle and put the trigger from this into my CAR.
