Hi, I got a used 16" lightwieght preban barrel last night . It has the markings of "C MP Chrome Bore" on the top of the barrel. I can find no twist markings and it has an A2 flash suppressor. I assumed it to be a Colt and really only wanted the fsb (which turned out to be a real pain to get off). I have an project AR that needs a barrel so I thought I might put the barrel on it and play around with it. Well after I got the fsb off I started putting the barrel on my project AR and noticed a split/crack or some kind jagged opening about an inch long starting at the gas tube hole and going towards the front of the barrel. Does any one know what might have caused this? Also will this fsb only fit a lightwieght barrel?  hanks,                                                                       Mantra

The crack, if it is truly a crack, sounds pretty ugly.  I'd hesitate to use the barrel if it is truly cracked that far.

The FSB taken off of that pencil barrel has an ID of 0.625" and will only fit other light profile barrels with a 0.625" gas block profile.

Thanks for the info on the fsb. I'll most likely toss the barrel. If you look at the barrel from the side you can see that the barrel kind of bulges up at that point where the split is. It also explains why I had so much trouble sliding (hammering) it off the barrel.

Consider selling the barrel, someone will most likely buy it and have it cut and redrilled for SBR/Pistol/or w/5.5FH build

Make sure its sold cheap though that kinda work can be pricey

Edited to add: Where did you get the barrel from and by whom?

Always wanted to post that.
In the interest of being helpful, I recommend the 16" on this page
16" CMMG barrel

It is very good barrel that allows you to play with heavy bullets.
