| Anyone use the Samco AR Tactical Pistol Grip? Find it too thick or just right? |
|
Welcome to the boards. I have a G27 and really like it, it is among the most comfortable grips for my hand. having said that, a grip is a personal thing and many peopel might prefer a smaller grip. The thing that kept me from having more than one is that they are only available in black and most of my ARs have colored furniture. They are supposed to have some green ones but I've never seen one and have heard that the color isn't a match for any other vendors furniture. |
| I love mine. I find them much more hand-filling than the Ergo Grip that I used to have. The A2 grip is way too small for correct trigger finger position. I am building a green-furnitured rifle soon, so I'll have a better idea about the color match then, but even if the color is not perfect, I wont care because I like the feel of the grip. Oh, and the storage compartment is OK too. |

I've used both the Hogue and the First Samco G27, and have played with most of the others (A1, A2, Lone Star, Ergo, SPR, etc). All my ARs now wear G27s. With the Hogue, I liked the texture & material (it's quite a bit "tackier" than the semi-hard plastic of the G27), but didn't like the fact that it's basically still an A2 in angle and profile and has no capacity for internal storage, and the side palm swells didn't quite fit me right. The G27 fills the hand well, includes a sealed storage cavity, and its shape and built-in "beavertail" reposition the hand for better finger placement on the trigger. It's a very good design; if they could build it out of Hogue-type rubber, it'd be the cat's a$$. And so what if it only comes in black? That's why God invented Krylon. |
The best thing I can say is to try them all until you find what you like for what you are doing with the rifle. The grip you like on a target rifle may not be the grip you like on a plinking or action shootign type rifle. Even if you can't find one in a local gunshop to fondle and you don't know anybody who owns one just find one for cheap online or in teh equipment exchange here and buy one. None of these grips are very expensive and you can sell them off to get at least a little of your money back. Here's my thoughts on grips: First Samco G27 - The overall size and shape is great. I like the storage compartment inside. The plastic is a little too hard and smooth for my taste. Limited color selection. Ergo Grip - A good grip overall with excellent texture but it is a little too narrow for my taste. If this grip were the same size and shape as the G27, or if the G27 were made from the same material and had the same texture as the Ergo then we'd have a winner. The Ergo is available in every color under the sun. The rubber Ergos also have a great texture but they feel even more thin than the regular Ergo and the hard plastic underneath is a little flexible. If they'd take the regular Ergo and put the rubber coating over the top so that is was thicker that might work very well. Hogue - Excellent texture and the profile is good. I wish the Hogue had the beavertail like an Ergo or the G27. The Hogue isn't as bad to me as the other non-beavertail grips because the finger grooves keep my hand a little lower. The Hogue and the G27 are the only finger groove grips I've found that have the grooves in the right place for me. The Hogue is available in black and green. Tango Down - This grip has excellent texturing on the sides, has a little extension at the front so you don't need a gapper and has a great storage compartment design. The quality of the plastic is great as well. The problem with it for me is that it doesn't have a beaver tail at the top and the grip angle tends to push the hand very high on the grip and with the length of my fingers it just feels wrong. Magpul - The Cadillac of grips. This is still in the pre-production stage so things can change. The modular design lets you set up the grip so that it feels right for you. I think the largest backstrap could be a little larger. Or maybe just add a fourth backstrap that is larger. The A2-style bump on the front is too small and 'pointy'. It is is in the smae position as the A2, which is a bad position for me, and my middle finger tends to rest onthe bump. On the A2 the bumps is larger and more rounded so it isn't a problem but this one irritates me. I selected the plain frontstrap with no bump and the largest backstrap and it works well for me. The assorted storage compartments are cool. On my rifles I currently am using: target rifles - Either OD Green Ergo Grips or black G27 grips depending on what mood I'm in and which rifle it is. other plinking rifles - Hogue grips because they are comfortable and work well for that type of rifle. 'My' rifle that is getting all the attention and cool stuff - MagPul MIAD. |
I have a hogue grip on my AR and I have to agree. I love the feel of it and how tacky it is, but the one thing that bothers me is the fact that I wish it had a thicker backstrap (beavertail) on it. The way it is currently, for my hand, my finger is too far forward on the grip and to hold the grip comfortably. The trigger is between my first and second knuckle. I have to hold my palm a little off the back of the grip to get it so that the trigger is in front of my first knuckle. Now, if the Magpul MIAD grip could make a front strap shaped like the hogue (with the finger groves) I think THAT would be the cat's ass! I've never tried the G27 myself, but it looks like a nice grip too. The thing that kept me from buying it was that people said it had a more hard plastic feel to it than the tacky rubber feel like the Hogue. |

I have a G27 on a M4gery. I like it, but prefer a TD Battlegrip. I dont like the finger grooves so much. That also explains why I bought an Xd not a Glock. G27 is better priced than the competition in my travels. Good grip, good value. |
