I know this should be in optics but I don't think it get hit as often.  I have the opportunity to buy a 4 year old Vari X II for a decent deal.  Is there a huge difference between them and the new ones and is it worth low range $200?

thanks in advance

IIRC last year (04) they changed to a multicoat 4 lens coatings on the vxii (was on the vxiii) which improves light transmission a few % but if you don't shoot at twilight it probly won't come into play.  leupys have a lot of eye relief which is good on magnum calibers so you might need your scope mounted more forward.  oh yeah lifetime warranty

You are comparing the older Vari X II with the new VX II, as stated above they use a better coating system on the VX and an even bigger advantage is in the windage and elevation adjustments.  The Vari X did not click per 1/4 moa like the VX does, the Vari X is just a smooth turn.  I own a Vari X II and III, and a new VX III.  Personally if the deal was right on the Vari X II  I would jump on it, if there isn't much difference then the VX is worth a little extra $$.
