being a newbie yet, i still have lots of questions. with that said, I've tried to use the search with no avail.
on the FN website, it says that they have been the contractor for the M16A2's sence 1988.
So, does Colt made the M4's and FN make the A2's? is there anybody else making the M16 class weapons that the GI's use?
thanks for input.

FN also makes the M16A3.

ETA: There are a lot of mix and match guns out there, especially with the reserves. I've seen slab side M16A1 lowers with m4 uppers.

I would assume that FN also makes the M16A4 for the marines. Bushmaster also apparently made a very limited number of M4s years ago during the Gulf War. Somebody on this board commented a while back about seeing a Bushmaster lower in the service.

All of the A2's we have at the ROTC armory are FN and Colts.

M16A1: Colt, H&R, and GM
M16A2: Colt, FN
M16A3: Colt, FN
M16A4: Colt, FN
M4/A1: Colt, Bushmaster

There's a third manufacturer that was just mentioned recently, made a small number of A2 or simply A2 lowers, some contractor in Venice Beach, FL (definitly not KAC).  There was a thread just a few days ago that touched on it, and if arfcom's search feature didn't make baby Jesus cry I'd go and find it.
