What are the pluses/minuses of a CAR length, Mid-length, or Rifle-length gas system?

Which is the most reliable, strongest, etc....?

With a properly set up rifle, I have seen no difference in reliability.

The carbine length has the sharpest recoil, the rifle the softest, with the midlength somewhere in between.  The difference is subtle at best.

also, (alledgedly) the carbine is a tougher on parts like the buffer, spring, and extractor
