I was thinking about a new gas block w/ flip up irons ... but why not just shave the original irons off?  I mean, if I take a dremel to it, shave it off so that it's just a gas block, polish the edges and refinish it, wouldn't it essentitally be the same as some of the "Low Profile Gas Block" (example: PRI Steel Gas Block ) out there?

Then after that I'd be able to fit rails such as the LaRue 9 incher and slap a front and rear rail-mounted BUIS, add a TA31F and I'll have:

1.  A flip-down front iron that won't be visible in the TA31F.
2.  Backup front and rear irons.

What do you guys think about this?

That should work but you ahve to be careful with the gas block. don't rupture it.

Do you know where I can find instructions on how to remove the front A2 flash hider?  I've searched all over and can't seem to find one.  TIA.

Use a 3/4 inch open end wrench right is tight left is loose. If you shave off the FSB Bushmaster has a fip front that fits over a shaved standard base.

I heard that there's actually a pin that holds the flash hider in, preventing it from spinning.  Is this true?  This is what worries me the most, I don't want to break the barrel by twisting it w/ the pin.  If this is not the case, all I need is some heat and a wrench like you said.

If it is on a 14.5" barrel then its pinned and welded. If its a FH (not a Muzzle Break like on post ban) and on a 16" barrel then its just tightly screwed on. No heat required.
