Hello y'all. I'm new to this forum and fairly new to AR's. I just got a brand new Colt AR-15 and was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestion on what's the best ammo, the best mods, etc. thanx guys, hope you all have a merry, gun filled Christmas.

Winchester Q3131A and Federal XM193 are good choices for G.P. ammo. As for mods, it all depends on what you are going to do with your rifle.  Personally, I'm not a "tactical" type. My 20 inch A2 clone is slick ( no mods or add ons) My M4gery is as well. Although I'll probably add a tac. sling, red dot sight and light.

First off, Welcome!

Second;

Ammo: Best for general use is Federal Lake City XM193 (55gr) and M855 (62gr) Ammoman.com has it w\free shipping.

Mags: Colt branded as well as USGI or LEO mags are best, "England" SA80 steel mags work well also.
          hint: If you buy cheap commercial mags, expect failures to feed. Make sure mags have the new green anti-tilt followers.

Accessories: (My opinion) Optics, Aimpoint M2, ML2, M68. Trijicon ACOG. Expensive but worth it.
               If you buy cheap no name mounts they are likely made of weak chinese pot-metal.
               Good brands are GG&G, A.R.M.S., Knights, Yankee hill. The good stuff isn't cheap but it will serve you well.

Become familiar with assembly/disassembly/immediate action (malfunction reduction) drills BEFORE going to the range. Readup on zero procedure posted in this website before going to the range.  Be safe.

and most important: enjoy!

Welcome!

As far as the best ammo and mods go, spend a little while reading through the various forums here on the site.  I'm sure you'll find opinions vary but generally most like Q3131A & M193 ammo and standard mods would included a rail system of some sort and a red dot optic.

Sorry for being so undescriptive in my first message. The rifle is a match target AR-15, I hope to eventually use it for tactical class 3 gun competition. However, I may just add some "evil" goodieshile.
